I wouldn't be surprised if one day,"Mai the Psychic Girl" get a Hollywood movie adaption. They'll probably call it "May the Psychic Girl" and simply give her an all-American background. It'll be interesting to see.

This was one of the first dozen manga series I read and it is still one of my favorites. Eclipse/Viz brought it out in 28 individual comics between May 1987 and July 1988. Two comics were issued each month. Unusual with comics, a second printing of (at least) the first issue was done. A later three volume "Perfect" edition was put out in graphic novel format.

As late as 1998 when I was looking, it was still possible to find all the comics in comic shop back issue bins.

First actual manga I ever read. One of my cousins had the whole thing and I read it all over the course of a weekend visit.

Mai was one of the first manga I found. It made a huge impression on me, and later I picked up a stray cat and named her Mai after the manga.

I remember Mai. I'm surprised there wasn't an anime adaptation.

Same with everyone above. One of the first manga I read. It was in my High School library, I think it was the first volume. I was actually in a Driver's Ed class at school and ran up to the library waiting on the class to start. Went through the entire volume in a matter of minutes. I was hooked! That was it for a few years, the library didn't have more. Haha! I remember the librarian lady telling me to watch out for the shower scene. Told her "I'm more mature than most people here." Childish old me trying to sound tough. Smile There were actually two copies of the volume and that "one" shower scene page was ripped out of the other copy. Lol! Anyway, had to finish this manga through "other" means a few years later. Man, really well done. And you know? Maybe it wasn't on purpose buy yeah, the openness feeling of the ending, left a sense of wonder inside you. Well, good times. Smile
