Sort of surprised their making more of it since it didn't seem to be doing particularly well from what I've heard, but I;m certainly not complaining. Hopefully it;ll stay as good as the current arc has been and less like the beginning of the series. Looking forward to it I guess. Would be nice is someone licensed it but I don't know how well it's doing on CR and I doubt there's enough interest...

They had planned on ending SSO this season, with 50-something episodes. They're saying here that they decided to add another season. I believe this means they're just continuing the current anime, albeit with a few weeks of break to catch up on work, if that. They might add another subtitle to it, though, since it wasn't a part of the original's plans.

I was wondering why they were taking so long to announce which show would take over Saint Seiya Omega's timeslot in April, and now we know why.

I'm glad, but I'm honestly surprised it's getting a second year. The show's ratings aren't very good (not that the crappy timeslot does it any favors), and the DVD/BD sales are even worse, but I guess it must be making its money back in licensing.

The ratings are good for the time slot it airs in, so no, they are not crappy, withing normal at the least to good levels for Saint Seiya Omega. Reason why its probbaly been extended since it has been well received, viewership wise.

As for DVD/BD, dont get confused and confuse others, this is not late night anime that depends on that, dvd/bd sales matter mainly to those series, for morning or evening/night/primetime anime it does not matter.

You are right that licensing is most likely having an effect, foreign interest in anime hardly matter for Japan when it comes to making or continuing a series, but of the few or only case I can think of, Saint Seiya is so huge in Latin America and Europe, as big as Dragon Ball in those lands, that yes, this western interest is that prompted the revival a decade ago and has lated this long, biggest revival ever.

As I veteran Saint Seiya fan that grew up with it I am very happy.

Wishing this new blood Omega is gathering gives hope that sometime the second half of Lost Canvas gets animated.

The more recent episodes have been better than the first half of the series but I still think it's "meh" overall. Nothing like the string of OVAs before it. That said, I'm still a bit surprised to see it continuing given how much they're rushing to finish the arc.

Indeed, no comparison to the previous series. The thing is this was not made to please the veteran fans but for the younger generation.

I think its decent, nothing to write home about thou, but watchable, to a certain extent enjoyable, I am happy for its success hoping it leads to more Saint Seiya as its actually happening and if its more true to the spirit of the original then it would e awesome.

As mentioned I would love that the second half of Lost Cavas is animated, now that one I loved as it was very true to the spirit of SS.

As for it continuing, well, it was like this in the original tv series as well, it has always been going by arcs, its basically emulating the first series. I dont think there is any rushing, the arc will most likely effectively end, maybe you think Mars arc will be prolonged? I doubt it.

Since its emulating the original SS, it probbaly means we will enter an entirely new arc with a new enemy and story.

Dunno if you are familiar with the original tv series, after the galactic tournament it was the arc of the 12 zodiac temples against the pope (sound familiar?), then Asgard, then Poseidon, and then Hades (OVas).

So Mars storyline probably will end and we will get new arc, new enemy as it usual with SS.

Is this for real?
Best news EVAH

I was sincerely worried that it was coming to an end, for I'd heard it hadn't been doing so well. With Shirokuma Cafe ending, I was wondering what would keep my weeks happy if this one ended too.

Being a huge fan of the original, I know this one doesn't even hold a candle to it, but I still love the simplicity and the classic style, plus the nostalgia coming into play. The only thing that, of all the original Bronze Saints (including the secondary ones) only spoiler[Ikki hasn't appeared], which ticks me off to no end.

I don't think criticizing the series stating the classic one is the best is wise considering every Saint Seiya fan will agree with the fact that the original one didn't have good writing as it was filled with repeated events and plot holes.

DVD/BD sales don't matter when it comes to kids shows. The only kids stuff that seem to do well DVD-wise is Gintama and One Piece. It's usually about the ratings, merchandise, and manga sales for these shows.

Pretty much this. SSO's ratings average is better than the last Digimon series that used to hold the same timeslot - something like 2.0 x 1.5.

And yeah, Omega is ready to debut in France and being dubbed for many countries in Europe and South America. That's likely the main factor here.

Hrm. I've watched it from the start, but was kind of looking forward to it being over so something else could have the timeslot. If the writing had been better I'd be excited now.

Oh well, at least it's a kids' show that doesn't involve playing card games...

I'm a big Saint Seiya fan. I grew up watching the old one. But yeah, now, through more mature and cynical eyes, I can say the original was very repetitive and just plain mediocre, as far as writing goes. The Lost Canvas is much, much better in that regard. But the original will always be no. 1, in my heart. Now that I'm not 7, I don't have many positive things to say about the first few episodes of Omega. I wish I could watch more and, maybe, dish out a more fair judgement, but I have neither the time, nor the patience for it.

But hey, if more Omega means more Lost Canvas OVAs, I'm all for it. Go Omega. Go "new blood" of fighters. Sell those figures.

Though I agree with your statement -that the original was very simplistic mindless shonen battle-, I think SSO has lost to it in terms of design (the Clothes look plastic and I feel a lot has been lost by making them carry their clothes in jewelry instead of hugeass boxes).

Another thing that has bothered me in Omega is that the villains have had a tendency of, right in the middle of the fight, they put a pause to their pummeling of the Bronze Saints and suddenly decide to talk about their pasts, when the context never asked for it. It has been incredibly awkward. I remember, right in the middle of the fight against Taurus, that the guy finishes beating the crap out of the young saints, and while they lie down trying to recover, he suddenly goes "let me tell you a little story...". I seriously didn't know what to make of it because it was so awkward in a very funny way

When the pattern repeated in Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Capricorn and even now that they're facing Mars... Well, it's just incredibly weird and awkward
