does anyone know of a place to get out of print vhs? I am currently trying to find the Clamp School Detectives VHS boxset...I've only seen it on Amazon but dont want to pay that much for it, and I really would rather get the boxset vs. individual tapes... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

It's difficult. Most people that have rare VHS tapes hold on to them, especially when there's not DVD version in sight. Your best bet is check out some old comic/anime shops that may have it collecting dust. There's always ebay too, VHS tends to go cheap there since people would rather have a high quality DVD or wait for one to become available.

I was searching earlier all over and I found only one site that had it listed, but it was sold out. It was at Anime Castle, so maybe you can ask if their going to restock soon.

If you look at the top of Anime Castle's VHS listings, they say it's a liquidation sale of their VHS inventory. I don't think they will restock. They're probably trying to turn all their titles over to DVD.

You're following up on Bandai's depressing Otakon announcements too, eh?
I immediately went looking for a subbed Saber Marionette R VHS after I read it. Luckily, a few retailers are still selling it, and I managed to find a copy at Anime Corner Store for just $15.
(And it just came in the mail today, in a box roughly the size of a medium Pizza Hut carryout carton. Lucky me. )

Did I miss something? I thought Bandai's depressing announcement was they have seed so fansubbers should stop, but they arn't planning on releasing volume 1 until early next year (that caused much profanity among myself and my friends)

That news could only be called depressing if you are a soulless leech. An ethical fansub consumer should be overjoyed that a legal version is finally on its way, and only saddened by the fact that it's taken as long as it has.
The REAL depressing news is the announcement that Saber Marionette R and Clamp Campus Detectives will not be released to DVD. With all the major American anime distributors dropping VHS releases in favor of DVD, these series either are or will soon be out of print, and become once more "unavailable" to American fans.
(Which is sad. Because SMR, for one, is so good.)

I am as happy as anyone that legal coppies are coming nhowever if you watched half a movie, really enjoyed it and then were told you couldn'tr see the end for another year, you would be pissed off too.
Ethics have nothing to do with it (I have no problem paying for it), I just want to see how it ends.

No SMR DVD release?
That's a real shame and a bit of a shock. I had read bout CLAMP School Detectives being unavailable for relase (and I don't really care), but I hadn't read about SMR anyway. It's hard to find on VHS and I was looking forward to it.
Dang, dang indeed.

Only a complete idiot would fansub SEED except for his own use. Bandai anounced a few years ago that they pretty much had the rights to anything and everything Gundam.

Gotta agree, fansubbing a no brainer like Seed is a waste of time and bandwidth. There are shows far more deserving of the attention that have little chance of coming here at the moment. As far as CSD and SMR not making it to dvd and being out of print on vhs....well, there is a reason they aren't going to bother with them, at least for quite awhile, and thats because they werent popular enough in the first place to sell the VHS copies that were made. If it's taken you tihs long to get into those shows then your only choice is to search for a VHS copy while you can or just give up. Really, if anyone had bought them in the first place it wouldnt be an issue.
