Some of those western cartoons can be very ugly and crude... But then again, how do you judge artistic value? It's purely subjective and there cannot be community consensus. Right here we can argue over modern art hanging in museums. Some find it genius, others find it completely lacking of merit and preposterous. Either way, saying "I don't like this art" or "I don't find this artistically relevant" doesn't make it so. It doesn't make your argument "this is not art" convincing. |

Bad news - This guy apparently was left in the dark as to his ability to defend himself from bullshit charges and now just makes this sort of bullshit more pursuable.
Good news - My understanding is that pleading guilty sets no legal precedent. Also, once again the "crime" of ugly drawings was thrown out in favor of a more mundane obscenity charge. |

Ugh, makes me feel terrible to live in Missouri. I don't read loli/shota but I will defend your right to read it to the ends of the earth.
Though to be honest, the guy shouldn't have such an obvious folder name. |

This always feels like such a witch hunt. Let's prosecute one man who enjoyed looking at drawn images of children engaged in adult situations because those completely made up children are being taken advantage of and have no say over what happens to their made up bodies. But let's ignore all the men who look at pictures of real life adult women who may be in situations where they're being taken advantage of and have no means of escape. Surely that's acceptable because they're adults!
I'm tired of the assumption that just because you look at drawn images of children engaged in sexual acts that that surely means that you're a sick person who is just one step away from preying on real children. Just because you enjoy drawn fetish images does not mean you're going to go out and recreate them. The same can be said for anything else that incorporates images that go against society's wishes - 99% of all people who play violent games do not go out and recreate those atrocities. If the government has so much time to waste on one man's enjoyment of cartoon children, maybe they should focus on something more important...like, creating more jobs. I, for one, am glad that those poor drawn children will now be protected from this madman.

This is insane. Unless he had some pictures of real children then there is no excuse for this kind of punishment. This poor guy's life is pretty much ruined over some drawings.

More info and the problematic nature of our legal system that results in many unjust and even contradictory laws--which is this case--that will almost never get a chance to be challenged:
http://reason.com/blog/2013/01/31/missouri-man-gets-three-years-for-posses Congress can pass any law they want, without any kind of constitutional scrutiny. But the only way to challenge a law, is to have standing, which means risking a huge draconian punishment.. and there's no guarantee that your case will be heard either. Previous obscenity cases have been denied any hearing at the Supreme Court. Moreover, you loose that right to appeal once you accept a plea bargain i.e. admit your guilt for a lesser punishment or charge (which is why the mandatory/statutory/default punishment legal nature is terrible) Oh yes, and two weeks ago, Ira Isaacs got sentenced to 4 years in prison for obscenity (live action): http://reason.com/blog/2013/01/16/fillmmaker-gets-four-years-in-prison-for |

okay this guy was arrested for cartoon porn while the movie milk money is still being sold that uses live actors. If you don't know what milk money is here is brief synopsis.
"Young Frank who is 12 and his pals get an idea for the ultimate in excitement. They decide to pool their savings, bicycle to the nearby Big City, and hire some woman of the streets to strip for them. Things do not work out that simply, but they do meet V, a Hooker With A Heart Of Gold, who ends up giving them a ride home. Soon she is living in Frank's treehouse, unbeknownst to Frank's widowed father Tom, who thinks she is one of Frank's teachers." Keep in mind this has more innuendo jokes about an adult woman screwing a 12 yr boy than most doujinshi out there and they get to see her knockers. So this movie is okay to sell at wal-mart for 5 bucks, Graphic Novels such as comic lo are not okay own or import. |

Well, you can blame the Common Law for that. |

Crazy. Have cases like this been increasing in frequency? It used to seem like a once-in-a-long-time occurrence where some poor guy would get made an example of and have his life ruined, but it seems like these prosecutions have been happening more and more. |

So how come directors and producers who make movies with fictional characters being raped aren't in the slammer? Or movies where fictional children are murdered? While we're at it, I'd like a warrant put out for animal cruelty against the heads of Disney for their wanton killing of Bambi's mother!
What a joke of a legal system it is that we have, saving drawings from horrible predators. How about saving our tax dollars from being brutally assaulted by this atrocious government waste? There are faces printed on those bills, after all! Of people who really existed, no less! |

How idiotic. With such reasoning I should be sent to jail because I own some de Sade novels.

Don't forget about Adam Sandler's latest movie "That's My Boy". The plot surrounds a man who became an instant child celebrity after the whole school catches him & his teacher having sex & the teacher becomes pregnant with the kid's child. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPV2L2CGWdQ If Hollywood can get away with movies like "Milk Money", then they can get away with movies like this one as well. |
