Having already seen this epic sci-fi/comedy show on Funimation's website, I am ever so looking forward to collecting this!

I honestly could care less about voice cast, as none of the original crew except maybe Washu make an appreance. I just want a release date.
Also just to be a nitpicker, on the back cover of the Blu Ray release of the ova, they have War as not part of the Muyo timeline when it is. War is cannoical to the main Tenchi timeline taking place somewhere between 15-16 years after Tenchi GXP where they show " I dont know how to use spoiler tags see post below this one". I mean if they include GXP they should include this.
And technically daughter of darkness is not a standalone either. Its the non canon spilt off from the ova timeline. DoD takes place after OVA 1 and 2 in an alternative timeline suggested by somebody else who worked on the OVA outside of K. Masaki.

I'd say that part about Rea being pregnant deserves a spoiler tag, just in case.
I agree that Geminar should've been connected to the OVA continuity on that chart. However, I'm assuming it was simply an oversight on the part of whoever put that chart together, since it only has very slight connections to the rest of the franchise.
I think its fine that they didn't connect DoD to the OVAs though (the novels it was based on actually only connected to the first OVA, since they started coming out before the 2nd OVA was released), mostly because, as you said, it is non-canon. It would be too hard to explain exactly how it connects to the original OVA to the average person browsing the anime section at Best Buy, and honestly they probably wouldn't care.
The chart is meant to be a simple guide to give people unfamiliar with the franchise a quick rundown of the various continuities at a glance. Its not perfect, but for the most part it works for what its trying to do. Hopefully, if/when someone becomes a Tenchi fan they'll do research and find this stuff out for themselves.

For anyone who has not seen this series it's 13 episodes are twice the usual length, coming in at 45+ minutes each.

I love/hate how Funimation use the term 'Very Special Announcement' when referring to a Cast announcement.
Like seriously a Special announcement of any kind is always meant to mean a new license. It does 99% of the time. Also with everything Sentai have been announcing recently you'd think it be in Funi's interest to announce something they have picked up recently.
But whatever they'll come in time. Just a weird use of the phrase 'Very Special'. Funimation be trolling lol

Yea its no biggie, I was just pointing it out. Nice avatar by the way, and I altered the spoiler you mentioned
Actually one or two of the episodes in the original ova are also 45 minutes long, but I always watch them in a marathon so I am not sure about which ones, other than here comes Jurai. I think one other episode is also 45, maybe Night before the carnival.
But you are right every episode in Sekai is 45. So I am curious if Funi wont spilt this up into two sets. Knowing how pinch penny they are I would not be surprised. Hell they own OVA 3 but did not include it in the ova blu ray release.

It's also digital, and can't easily be upscaled to 1080p without looking like ass.

Quote: | With this series, Funimation has now acquired the streaming, home entertainment, theatrical, and merchandise rights to the complete Tenchi Muyo! anime franchise. |
For the record, Funi still lacks the license for the Pretty Sammy OVA and TV series (Magical Project S, as the Geneon release was titled) and Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure.

That's because it never got a Blu-ray release in Japan as it was one of the Tenchi titles not produced by Geneon but by VAP plus, as walw6pK4Alo mentioned, the show was made digitally in SD and would not look right when compared to the previous OVAs since it would have to be an upscale and with FUNi, their in-house upscales range from decent to complete garbage.

They also don't have the Mihoshi special which was previously released here with the Pretty Sammy OVA.

Y'know, if the "VERY SPECIAL" announcement was a cast list I would have assumed it would be for Last Exile considering there's been quite a few questions about how that would be handled. Then again, considering at least half the presumed returning cast (or at least the ones that matter) would probably either opt to go uncredited or use an alias maybe we won't get one any time soon.

Wait.. Dual is in the world?? I mean outside of Jimbo with lighthawk wings what else is there that connects them?
I own both the Mihoshi special and Dual so I'm not complaining I was just curious about that. Never got into Pretty Sammy.

Just how good is War on Geminar. Outside of the original OVA's and a couple of the movies, never really liked the other Tenchi stuff that I have seen. Can't believe how abominable Tenchi Muyo! GXP is, animation is crappy and they took the harem aspects of Tenchi Muyo! and blew them out of proportion for GXP.
It would be nice if Geminar was equal to the original OVA's or a lot better than GXP. I then could look forward to watching it.

My husband told me that it was basically GXP style with about the same fanservice. Don't expect the original OVA in terms of quality. I haven't seen it personally so I can't say. He saw the whole thing online.
