I've only seen teh Hellsing anime so it was a big readon why I wanted to check out the manga. Trust me, I am waiting patiently for the OVA to come stateside, who knows when that will be.
I've seen the Berserk anime so I've also been thinking of waiting until the manga gets to where the anime left off, thats what i did with Rurouni Kenshin.
Check you PM... in a couple of minutes.

Well you're going to need the first 3 volume of Berserk as that was never in the anime.

I've read people saying that the anime begins after volume 3 so... I think I might pick this up, I'm just waiting for Battle Royale volume 15 to come out and then the only manga I'm collecting would be Monster, so 2 volumes to look forward to every other month is very affordable for a full time college student.

Dark Horse has released 10 Volumes in English so far, and Berserk is released every four months, though I think I heard they will increase production to bi-monthly after volume 13. I can't confirm that, I just have this feeling that I heard it somewhere.

Is it so hard to check darkhorse's website? That's why we have a General Question & Reference sticky.

Try every 3 month on the average. Where did the 4 month come from? And it's been confirm that Berserk will go bi-monthly.

Yes and no. They cut some stuff from the first 13 volumes to condense it for the anime, and they added a bit of new stuff to flesh out the anime. Generally speaking, they cover the same stuff-- or atleast, what happens in the anime happens in the manga. There were some volumes in the beginning of the manga about Gut's childhood and him as the Black Swordsman figure that were cut, some fights and battles later on (around vol 10-12) that were cut as well.
Frankly, and I know this is heresy, I never cared for the stuff that was cut anyways. The first volume or two are only OK in my opinion-- they pick up in quality once you get to Gut's childhood. But the early art is more unrefined, and the quality of storytelling is much simpler/typically shounen-ish fare. And I never cared for the later fights they cut either. They're ok, but they were never why I really liked the anime or the manga anyways.
Still, if you're a completist, or you really love the anime, I'd pick up atleast the earlier volumes. I own them all, despite my "diatribe" above. The anime and manga are pretty similar, but they do have some differences, and, in a couple of cases, the differences are very important (like the introduction of major characters, and the background of characters).
The manga, just to be straight, is still very very good. One of my favorites. And the art just gets better and better and better as it continues. To volume 30 (?) now, and there are pages in there that are some of the best illustrated manga or comics I've ever seen, period. Who would've thunk that, looking at volume 1?

i find it funny how the extremely tough guy has a kind of gay friend lol wtf?
other than that, its a damn good manga, too bad i left my current volume at school over spring break!!! damn it! lol
i tought the 1st page in volume 1 was just a sneak peak of how [expletive] crazy this manga is.
and does anyone else think that the final fantacy people stole his HUGE ass sword idea and gave it to Cluod in ff7?
or is it the other way around?

Sorry, my brain fried on me. "4 times a year" went through my head, came out "every 4 months". Thanks for correcting me, and for confirming.

Well, everything that happens in the anime also happens in the manga, EXCEPT there's a raid or two that Guts and Griffith do together around ep 6 or 7 or so that isn't in the manga, which was added into the anime. Some scenes also occur later or earlier in the series, so there is a bit of re-ordering (not much important really).
Of course, there's stuff that happens in the manga that doesn't happen in the anime, such as what I explained in the last post.

I assume he means Griffith, as some have thought before.

Uh, yeah. In almost every volume of the series. Most notable ones are Guts in volume 3, and Casca in volume 14.
