That's big, considering music rights. Maybe the lofty heights of Macross aren't so unattainable, and those legal battles are long over. Just keep Harmony Gold out of it.

iM@S is on its third season of related in name series, and AKB0048 is on its second half. Miku probably shouldn't get an anime unless they synthesize her voice 100% of the time, no seiyuu, unless it's the original voice contributor. Even then, computerize it.

Oooh, cool. I love how girly and dorky everything looks in this show!

Considering how a lot of Vocaloid songs are crossing over into anime or other media (the Black Rock Shooter and Kagerou Project anime, stage plays based on Senbonzakura and Daughter of Evil, light novels based on other songs) I'm sure it's only a matter of time until there's a full fledged Hatsune Miku anime!

I know AKB0048 is not from this season (technically), but I am not too happy about the silly otaku pandering shows from this season that Sentai is licensing. I wish Sentai did not license many titles from this season and instead waited for what the rest of the year has to offer.
But I suppose Sentai will offer subbed DVD's (down the road) of AKB0048 and the other otaku pandering shows they have recently licensed. I cannot imagine the typical R1 buyer lining up for a dubbed BD copy of X otaku show.

Yay! This got licensed!
And while it is true that a lot of idol anime are pandering cash cows, I saw the entire first season of this, and I can say with certainty that this is not one of them. It can somewhat be taken as a meta commentary about idol life in general and how unfair and competitive the business can be if you really read between the lines a bit. I wonder if this'll be dubbed? I'll be happy if it does.

What do you propose they license? I have a mental list of my own, but it's mostly little known OVAs and films from back in the day, or hentai. Besides, why hate on this show? It's just Kawamori expressing his love for idols and idols doing magnificent and ridiculous things. It's Macross without the love triangles.

It is. This news is for the 26 episode series, which is being continued this season (officially the 1st episode aired this season was numbered Episode 14).

Twelve physical release licensing announcements (if you count two from Maiden Japan, which you should) in the first 16 days of January. Not too damn shabby.
Funi physical release licensing announcements during that same time?: 0.

I am excited for this! I hope it gets a Blu Ray, but I understand if it has to be DVD only. I think I'll wait for the physical release to watch the rest of it.

I want Sentai to keep licensing new shows, but to me they are licensing too many of the shows from this otaku pandering winter 2013 anime season. And I am not hating on AKB0048; I know my tastes, and this is not the kind of show I would like.
By the way, I do not like Macross. I can respect the animation quality, but the story and characters are to silly to me.

I wouldn't worry, they will be at ohayocon this weekend and probably announce everything there

ANN is not that great of a representative of NA tastes. AS and /a/ are the two biggest NA anime forums, and they both love otaku anime. I mean hell, look at /a/'s top 20 anime of 2012:
AKB0048 was one of the top 6 anime of the year for them.

Well, from my understanding, many Japanese otaku HATE the AKB0048 anime, because they hate AKB48, because they hate idols. There seems to be some sort of war between anime and idol fans. Hell if I know why though.
Anyway, this anime is actually pretty good. It's GREAT if you liked Macross. The story moves quickly, the characters are diverse and well defined, there's not that much fanservice, and no major plot holes as of yet.
