So it's been a really long time since the first volume of Battle Royale came out, and now it is finally over. How do you people feel about the ending?
The ending kind of caught me by surprise. I was almost positive that spoiler[Shogo Kawada would have survived.] I was pissed off though due to the fact that spoiler[nothing was explained after they headed out for America. Sure they have a picture of Shuuya and Noriko, but they never kissed! I am not a big fan of romance novels and romance in my serious/violent anime, but I was waiting for a kiss or sex scene towards the end. I think I would have preferred an ending where Shuuya and Noriko were married and had a kid or something with more closure.] I guess "you can't always get what you want". Still, it was a very fitting ending to a really good manga. The over the top violence, interesting (for the most part) story, great character and character development, definatly make this title one of my favorite manga ever. |

Watching the Movie or reading the novel would've clued-you in about that part.
As for the rest....why not just read the novel? |

I didn't know there was a novel or movie until I was a couple volumes into the manga. I felt I might as well read the rest of the manga before I tried to watch the movie or read the novel, of course I didn't know the series would go up to 15 volumes.

Remember this thread? It was mentioned that there was a movie and that the manga and the movie are quite different.

well, arent all movies and mangas different?
in mangas u get more story, but u give up visual? and in movies, u get a shit load of visual effects, but they cut off allot of the story. like akira for example, they took out allot of the story and scenes to get it to be shorter... its always good to read the manga 1st and then watch the movie to compare shit. |

Well looking at the ending, it was pretty similar to the movie. spoiler[Although killing Kiriyama took forever in the manga.] But there was a bit more detail at the end of the manga. spoiler[In the movie after Kawada died, they just sailed off. At the end of the manga, they were shown in Japan (?) and they were watching how they were wanted. Plus they were preparing how to take on the world ]which obviously leads to BR 2

I do remember that thread, but I also remember writing that I hadn't seen the movie or Battle royale 2. It also turned into a discussion of why it isn't available in the U.S. I didn't even know that the movie had to do with the same class. I guess I would have found out sooner or later.
I believe that in the end, spoiler[Nariko and Shuuya were in the U.S., more than likely New York. They were shown back in their hometown after the game was over. But they were just there waiting for their boat ride. And in the last couple pages Shuuya says "I guess this is where you come looking for a happy ending. Sorry to dissappoint you. Oh don't get me wrong, we made it." Shuuya was referring to the fact that he didn't kiss Noriko.] I have no idea what Battle Royale 2 is about so I can't comment on if that is where part 2 picks up. |

Yeah. I doubt I'll be watching these movies any time soon. I just stopped working and plan to go to school full time so I'll be strapped for cash. I also just found out that Hot Topic has Battle Royale movies 1 & 2 in a box set for $35. If I had the cash, I would. But for now I think I'll be sticking to box sets for a while.

BR2 was a terrible movie forget it even exists.
pretty much was made to milk the whole Battle Royale craze from the novel and the first movie. |

Aside from cyrax777's comments, joel, the main synopsis is spoiler[Nanahara has started this terrorist group called the Wild Seven, and soon they blow up either the WTC or some important building (maybe in Europe or Japan), sending a message to the adults that it is war. Anyway the Japanese start another "program" which is to find Nanahara and you can guess what their goal is to do with him. One of the girls in the group is Kitano's daughter who has voluntarily joined the program with nothing but vengeance on her mind. From what I heard they invade the island Nanahara's on, and half the class is killed. From there I think Nanahara meets with the survivors and convinces them what the adults are doing is bad and then the kids revolt and then we are at war.]
I actually haven't seen the movie but I know the director, Kinji Fukasaku died of cancer two days into shooting. His son finished the movie but Kinji is still credited as the director. |

Kitano in the first movie (played by the almighty Beat Takeshi!) spoiler[was the "homeroom" teacher of the class for the program. So they killed him and now his daughter wants to get back at Nanahara (Course she was upset that his dad was never home).] Nanahara spoiler[wanted to get back at the adults for putting him through hell in the program] |

The "homeroom teacher" on the manga was named Yonemi Kamon. Thats why I didn't know.
I thought that spoiler[Nanahara was just gonna live out his life with Nariko. But I guess his sense of justice didn't allow him to.] I dunno if thats even a spoiler considering that it didn't even happen, but oh well. |

Fortunately there's nothing after BR 2. But I think the BR 2 manga was pretty good.
