When I talk about it at school, people roll their eyes, when my little sister hears me speak of it, she leaves the room, when my best friend hears me talk about it, he wants to know more. I'm talking about anime (dosen't that first sentence sound like the openings for some kind of comercial). Anyway, I just wanted to know what your family/friends/co workers, think of your anime fandom.I've tried some stuff to introduce people I know to anime (all ending with failed results). So what do people you know think?

Warning:Ranting
I have had tons of success with anime and manga but then again it could just be my good looks . Hmmmmmmm...Yeah it's definately the anime and manga.People think that I'm cool for being myself regardless of what they think. People like to call me names and think I'm insane but with most people at my school they accept it and ask me questions about it and they treat me normal so I don't think they really care but of course you're always going to have people who think it's something bad and wrong with a teenager who likes cartoons without watching it. But the crap they watch themselves(which I have watched and can judge through my educated opinion) is garbage. How many reality shows can you watch, how many top ten countdowns can you watch before you realize they are boring and repetitive and rip-offs of each other. How uncreative do you have to be to say "Let's do a countdown show that plays the same videos everyday with little to no change in line-ups and have big stars come advertise their movies and new albums. Let's market it toward kids and teenagers who want to be cool and make them think they have to watch it to be cool. I know anime takes ideas from others but at least the creator gives it their own artistic flare and creative direction.

Most people I know think that it is stupid to be watching anime at my age (24) but thats ok, I just tell them that I don't watch anime so that I can have their approval, I watch it because I enjoy it. That usually shuts them up.

I know Legato. Ignoring the people who don't like it and bash it is best but it can get annoying after countless people do it. I bashed countdowns and rality shows because I don't like them but if you want to watch them that's your business and none of mine.

people who don't know me that well don't usually say much, I look very young so they still think I'm a kid and people who do know me, not including family, dont really say much because they think I have the mentality of a 5 year old. Most of the time my friends just humor me because they know its something I enjoy and occasionally they might get into a show or two... my dad is the only one who really has a problem with it, but we pretty much ignore each other...

I'm a twin (not identical) my brother and I couldn't be any more opposite. He thinks that I'm weird for watching it now being 21 and seeing the collection grow among shirow masamune wall scrolls and tenjo tenge statues. At the same time we are somewhat alike we think the same sometimes but are interested in different things. He says he woulnd't mind watching something lke cowboy bebop when i was watching the movie, so there is hope. The only problem I have is that a few of my in-law relatives of sorts which there about the same age talk about the damned DBZ. aarrrrgggh! I guess i'll have to get them drunk and make them watch something else. Bacardi 151 anyone?

How many more of these "does anime make you accepted or not?" threads are we going to have? Can I get an estimate or something?

This is hardly about acceptance, I just want to know what people think about your fandom. The line that sperates the two is thin, but there nontheless.

No, it's about acceptance. If people think you suck for watching it, they don't accept it. If people think it's cool, then they do accept it. The only difference is that you are pretty much asking for exact quotes. (My mom said "Blah blah!!" or my best friend says "Blah blah BLAH!")

Here's my final thought:
Stop asking how people got in to anime and whether or not the people in their lives 'accept' it. The topic is stale, overdone, and most times it's just people rambling on about their personal lives. This is a forum, not a public blog.
