This news saddens me, unfortunately.
I've been waiting with baited breath for the next episode to be released, as I really enjoyed Hand Maid May and figured that Hand Maid Mai would be just as entertaining.
Plus, it dealt with videos and editing, and that's my profession (although not AV... >,>)
Ah well. I'll find another anime to fill my time

So does this mean they aren't going to finish the series at all? Could it have been recieved that badly by fans? Granted it was fairly detatched from the original, but that never seems like a reason to be shuned by fans. Maybe they just didn't have the funding to finish it?

I don't mean to sound like a (total) jerk, but good riddance. That first episode was terrible. I'd put it somewhere inbetween the first Hand Maid May and something like Hanaukyo Maids in the creepiness department.
Wonder Farm REALLY needs to stop with this fanservice/maid crap. The shtick is getting rather old.

Yeah... it was pretty bad... I was somewhat curious to see how it turn out nonetheless. I enjoyed Hand Maid May... but this was really disappointing compared to the original series.
I guess we shall find out eventually...

Saber Marionette J + Chobits - decent scriptwriting + creepy fanservice = Hand Maid May.
Hand Maid May + big breast/lolita/panty/maid/electronics fetish x2 = Hand Maid Mai.
Therefore, Handmaid May>Hand Maid Mai, which is REALLY SAD.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Well from what I gathered from the japanese site(thanks to babelfish), their distribution company went in to bankruptcy court and is unable to release the DVDs.
This is what babelfish translated:
Corporation ファイブウエイズ which is the present condition, sale and selling agency becomes bankruptcy, our company and affiliated staff all, we do the perplexity which becomes great.
In regard to the production of animation 2 volume and 3 volumes we have already completed, after that it does not wait for legal disposal now when it has become the circumstance which is not obtained, even in one day to be quick, the fact that we would like to deliver this work is the request of our company and staff all who participated to the customer to wait, that has done mission and heart.
Depending, now for a while until legal disposal completes, to wait, we ask the fact that it receives.

A distribution company in bankrupcy. I sure hope this isn't a sign of the down turn of the industry.
It makes no sense that just ONE title would be stopped if that really was the cause. They are probably using it as a front.

Wow. Five Ways went bankrupt? That's news to me.
As for Hand Maid Mai, it was a doomed project in the first place.
