First off this kinda belongs in the retail section, and secondly the covers are legit I am not too sure if that is the best price on ebay. First off there are two different boxset for Escaflowne one being an MSRP of 99.99 dollars which is what you are looking at I believe, and an another one at MSRP of 49.99. So I don't know which item you were looking for, but the seller seems like he is selling R1 use paypal to be safe. If I ever recieve anything that is non R1 I file suit. But to back yourself up ask the seller if these are R1 by bandai. If they avoid your question, or say something like they will play in your dvd player then there normally fakes.
Till next time, Delta Kiral P.S. Check the escaflowne page to see what going rates are on these set if you like here andhere |

Yes, there are legal ones (that one seems to be legal), but there's are still a lot of bootlegs on Ebay. It's just not the best place to recommend to other people unless they know how to spot bootlegs. But if they knew, most likely they wouldn't be having to ask for recommendations.

If Escaflowne you're looking to purchase, then wait. The "Anime Legends" edition will be available on April 11th:
Link It will probably be a lot cheaper considering $49.99 is the MSRP, so Best Buy, and Right Stuf, have it for a atleast $10 cheaper. [EDIT: Changed URL into link again. -TK] I was gonna do that but got lazy. Last edited by joel_s95387 on Mon Mar 06, 2006 2:58 am; edited 1 time in total |

Wow, it's rare to see something that isn't a bootleg on Ebay. Snazzy.
The fact that it actually does say it's region 1 is generally the best tip-off, I've never seen a bootleg that wasn't region 0. The correct picture is also good, but I've seen bootlegs advertised with the picture of the legit set before. |

I've seen bootlegs on Ebay listed by the seller as being R1. Personally, the only way I'll buy anime on Ebay is if the seller posts actual photographs of the item, and even then I'll ask the seller if it is indeed legit. |

Yeah, I've seen that done before too, but for the most part, bootlegs list as being region 0 (sometimes I've seen them listed as 1 first, and then at the bottom listed as 0). I'd tend to think this is legit, because it has the right pictures, and makes a point of saying it is NOT a bootleg. |

Can't link to this since it's a bootleg but this is what was written in the decription, it was from half.com:
Yes, it also had a picture of the legal R1 Love Hina set. It's obviously a bootleg though since it's three discs and the legal R1 has more discs then that. Just goes to show that a product can have the correct picture and claim to not be a bootleg but still be a bootleg. The price is the main thing I look at for bootlegs. If it's outrageously underpriced, I probably won't buy it. |

Personally, I think ebay should be autocensored as "[This URL is a known Bootlegging Website]" This set seems legit in terms of the image and information, although you can probably find it for cheaper if you look elsewhere. And btw, there are actually three boxed set releases of Escaflowne. The very first, this one, is the ultra-awesome limited release, and you probably won't even be able to find it used for less than $120. New versions of this boxed set would be "collectible" status at $200+. I actually recommend the "perfect collection" that's out now--it comes in a nice, space-saving nice case and includes the movie, which some will want to have, I suppose. |

I actually hate those cases that it comes in. Its like the cases of Smallville and The OC. Very easy to break with just an accidental drop. The box set out now does contain the movie, but it would be cheaper to buy the new Anime Legends AND the Anime Legends special edition movie than the $100 box. Personally i already own the movie, I remember watching the series way back when FOX aired it on Saturday Mornings so I picked up the movie when it came out, so I just need the episodes. My local anime specialty store has a new copy of the Ultra Edition for $150. Still too much money IMO. |
