I was just curious, as I recently read the manga and it was much, much more violent than the show. I wasn't sure if this was because of censorship on Toonami's part, or if the anime was always like this. In a recent episode you see Bo-bobo chopping up Don Patch with a knife, but it's offscreen.

Very often, there is more graphic violence and sexuality in the manga than in TV adaptations.

As Jaguar D. Sault said, they redid a good deal of the dialouge so that it makes fun of itself for being a Japanese show.

They did the same thing with Samurai Pizza Cats years ago.

I know about many cultural references/puns being "Americanized," I just want to know if it is censored/toned down at all to fit Toonami's standards.

Personally I often find Bo-bobo to be pretty funny, you just need to abandon all sense of logic while watching it.

I always thought that Bo-bobo was always intended for kids, not to say adults shouldn't be watching it. I've seen a couple of episodes and it kinda reminds me of Ren and Stimpy, in the way it does stuff thats "gross". Samurai Deeper Kyo manga felt more adult than the anime, and this series is about sword fighting. Bo-bobo is about... nose-hair fighting...???

I dunno. Having read the manga, the attitude and dialogue seems pretty much the same.

The actual manga itself is parody of Japanese anime and culture and makes fun of those conventions.

I watch the show and I love it. I love the manga as well. But I wonder how much they actually changed when they leave ALL these Japanese subtitles in and don't even bother translating them into English.
