I recently bought the 5-disc boxed set of Peacemaker and while I was looking on the shelves I saw that there was an extra 2 discs, 6 and 7. However, there are only 24 episodes in the boxed set and I checked up on ANN to see more about the show and noticed that it says there are only 24 episodes of Peacemaker total. Has this just not been updated or did ADV Films(the company) combine the 7-discs into 5 for the boxed set?
I'd really like to know before I make a trip out to the store to look at the next two dvds. (it's a little far)

They squished it down to 5 discs for everything. You're set.

What you have is a complete set, ADV did something very nice and made a lot of their series available for a lower price by putting more episodes on a disc. But the problem lack thereof for the extra some of my favorite considering ADV does normally include a better than average extras. So Thin Packs while are economically friendly are always fan friendly just depends on your taste. By the way how is Peacemaker Thin pack I was thinking of getting it.

Yeah, don't buy those 2 discs, or else you'll wind up getting an extra copy of episodes 19-24.

This is quite typical for these ADV thinpacks...if a series is 24-26 episodes and originally on 6 or 7 discs, it'll be redone as 5 discs without any extras, aside from previews. This is the case with Peacemaker and other series like DN Angel, Chrno Crusade, and Angelic Layer. If it was 12-14 episodes and originally on 4 discs, it'll be 3 discs in the thinpack, like Pretear, Nuku Nuku TV, or Abenobashi.

(Exceptions: Full Metal Panic! (1st Season), Noir, RahXephon, and Rune Soldier, whose thinpacks contain the same number of DVDs and same disc content as the original release--they're just repackaged.) ~these thinpack questions come up often enough , so I think this information is relevant.

Whether to buy thinpacks or single discs depends on A) your finances, and B) the extras--some series like Super Gals and Abenobashi have good extras that really enhance the show, while others don't have anything you'd miss, like Kino's Journey or Elfen Lied. (The Elfen Lied thinpack doesn't exist yet, but I'll be buying it when it comes out...)

What about Azumanga Daioh? I've been looking to get that series without making my wallet bleed. Will I be missing out on any good extra's if I get the thinpack? I heard that the last single disk includes the Azumanga Daioh Really Really Short movie and that the thinkpack doesn't have it.

Well, more importantly, the Azumanga Daioh single volumes each have a fairly comprehensive booklet of translation & cultural notes, character design sheets, and brief commentaries from various members of the show's production staff. Very interesting reads, and I'd consider them well worth the price of collecting each volume individually (not to mention certain single-volumes include cute little lapel pins of various Azumanga Daioh mascots--Kamineko, Chiyochichi, Necoconeco, Maya, etc.).

Those aside, you aren't missing much. I can't speak on the Very Short Movie being in the thinpack, but all it really was were some gags from the first two episodes set to slightly better animation. Personally, I'd've preferred them licensing Azumanga Web Daioh, which featured all original material (and which I found to be both funnier and cuter for it).

What I don't understand is why ADV doesn't release the thinpaks as 4 disc sets. I believe the 5th Azumanga DVD (as well as other ADV thinpak discs) has 7 episodes on it without any audio/video compromise. Instead they have really strange number patterns per disc, some DVDs with only a few and some with a ton of episodes per disc stretched out to 5 DVDs.

I wasn't going to post cause I thought the first couple of posts pretty much concluded the topic but, now I too wonder how many episodes can fit into a single DVD?

Speaking of weird episode counts, RahXephon has a really weird count; 5-4-3-4-3-4-3. Maybe not that weird that I look at it again but still weird compare to other releases.

Wasn't Saikano reduced to 2 discs? I think it's just a reason for ADV and retailers to charge atleast $10 per DVD. Best Buy has most three disc sets for $30.

The Gantz release was weird too. In the end, I ended up paying more for the same amount of episodes I get out of a regular release, for the exception of volume 6.

depends on the animation, quality and resolution you want the number can be 1-12ish on a single layer DvD(most anime will be 5 max, 7-12 is for bootlegs), The wierd numbers could mean each volume is a chapter, or they leave it a cliffhangger ep, but I think its mostly so they can get more money for the production, they can easily fit 5 eps on one single layer DvD without much compromise on audio/video of most anime. They would be losing out on money though, so on a 24 ep series t would be better to have 7 disc as oppose to 5 or 6 disc, each disc having at least 3 eps(about 1 hr of actual anime(-OP/ED)).

Saikano was released on two discs. ADV as stated has also officiall put 7 episodes per disc. I don't find this odd since the quality can be maintained at 7 per disc. What I do find odd is the uneven distrabution of episodes on thinpak sets. Why would they put more than 6 episodes on a disc for a 26 episode series spread out on 5 discs since 6 x 5 = 30? I would think they would put 5-6 episodes per disc or reduce the total disc count to 4 discs.

Hmm, that's strange about the AzuDai thinpack--all of the thinpacks I own have reasonable distributions--26 ep series have 6/5/5/5/5, 13 ep series have 5/4/4. It should be noted that some legitimate DVDs have 7 episodes; 7 episodes doesn't automatically mean bootleg. Saikano rerelease=7/6, Fruits Basket=6/6/7/7, Fushigi Yuugi=7/6/6/7/7/6/6/7. Sailor Moon S discs 1 and 6 have 7 episodes. However, I've never seen 8 or more on a legit disc, aside from some Pokemon discs. And oddly enough, bootlegs of 13 ep series seem to have odd distributions like 8/5 or 9/4 instead of the more reasonable 7/6.

I sometimes wonder if some of the divisions are actually due to story reasons. Hikaru no Go volume one has 4 episodes on it, instead of five like many first volumes - my personal suspicion is that it's because episode 4 has more of a cliffhanger ending than episode 5. Like the old show business adage says, 'always leave them wanting more'.

Yea that kinda makes me upset since in reality ADV could have easily made this series a 6 disc set instead of 7 but I guess when you pay so much money in license that ADV must go to that extra volume in order to hopefully turn a profit.

If I remember correctly the first season of Gantz which was like disc 1-6 or something like that was going to be release with fewer episodes at a lower price to see if the market would buy more anime at these reduce prices. ADV said that there wasn't enough market change so they decided to scrap the plan.

I personally, love the thin pack. It's very convient, especially now that I know I don't have to buy two more dvds. Of course, it doesn't have any of the extras like on the regular dvds.
