I'm taking a long shot but is there any anime base on hockey?

I don't know of any. I think hockey is the only sport I've never seen referenced in an anime. I don't think the Japanese have that much interest in hockey.

Lacrosse, a sport somewhat akin to field hockey (although they are still quite different), has appeared in several anime (e.g. The Cat Returns and Pretty Cure), yet none of them has stories surrounding the sport.

There's a J-Drama called Pride that revolves around hockey, but I haven't seen an anime series where hockey plays any role at all.

:sigh: I was hoping there would be one. I'm a huge hockey fan, but hockey's not a big sport there, which is a shame.

Top sports in Japan: Baseball, Soccer, Rugby, Prize Fighting, Judo, Sumo Wrestling (Duh! It's their cultural sport) There are either manga or anime based on these sports.....

Well, there was an episode of Street Fighter II V where Ryu and Ken beat up a group of hockey goons in Kowloon Palace, Hong Kong.

Baseball seems to be a popular sport in Japan, but hockey doesn't seem like their thing. I think that the Japanese are generally too small physically to compete with the big guys in the NHL. Asians in general are smaller than most other ethnic backgrounds. Sports like table tennis, badminton and baseball are more popular because it doesn't require require you to be 6'3" and 240 pounds. I don't see asian countries playing football either, it seems like that's pretty much a North American sport.

What about F1 isn't that a popular sport in Japan as well, I mean it's the most popular sport held seasonally. Till next time, Delta Kiral |

There is! At least... partly...
In Dash! Kapei (or Kappei, I dont remember), better know as Gigi, in Italy, is an old comedy anime featuring a tiny (and a bit perverted) high school student and all his wacky attemts at sports, which he actually turns out to be very good at. The show starts with many episodes about Basketball but Gigi (as I know him, from TV) also took Ping Pong, Athletics, Fencing and YES! HOCKEY! There were a few episodes, but I dont know which. Still... getting this anime is extremely difficult. And getting it just for the few hockey episodes would just be a waste of time. Still the series was hilarious when I was a kid. |
