Looks nice, but I wish Shaft had finished Kizumonogatari before jumping to this.

I'll watch it because I'm still trying to figure out why people worship this series when I can't see anything special about it beyond all the fan service.

I think I'm beginning to understand why people make a surprised face when I tell them maths is my main hobby. |

Wait, is this a series or an OVA?
It mentions two DVD releases, but it appears to be a 2-hour timeslot on Dec 31st. |

From what I can gather, its 4 straight episodes airing on a TV special that'll release on 2 DVDs. Basically, 4 episodes overall since 2 episodes per DVD is the standard. |

Gotcha. So it's basically the length of a movie or an OVA, just being shown on TV. Thanks. |

YES!
I just got my Bakemonogatari BD set from Aniplex and was watching Tsubasa Cat yesterday, thought to myself 'man, I wish they would have animated what occurred before this so I could know exactly what they're going on about', and here it is. Funny the way the universe works sometimes. |

I'm not looking forward to this one as much since Hanekawa is by far my least favorite girl, but generally the series has great dialogue along with lots of eyecandy during it. Nise was especially good with this... Never before had I seen in anime 13 straight minutes of a loli bathing (with lots of feetservice of course, being by Shinbo) being turned into a deep psychological conversation.
Most of the time I get bored during dialogue heavy stuff since it just shows the characters talking heads over and over again, but this is what separates the Monogatari franchises from others that are dialogue heavy. Adding all of that extra eye candy and interesting camera angles keeps it from getting boring, and thats a major reason why its the biggest TV anime franchise of the last decade. Others have tried it but nobody has been able to replicate the success of Shinbo. |

Kizumonogatari is almost done. They said they can make it in end of 2012 if they want. It will probably show in early-mid 2013. But unless you are living in Japan you won't see it unless 2014. Movie always take a long time for bluray/dvd release. Nekomonogatari is probably a hook to make you want to watch the movie. I was quite intrigued by Hanekawa's story when watching Bakemonogatari. I like what I saw in this trailer, especially dark Hanekawa in underwear. If I want to buy Nekomonogatari (Black), I hope AoA releases it along with Kizumonogatari.
