Oh wow, this is awesome and really heart-warming to hear. Getting presents, from some of their favorite characters no less, is going to just make some of these kids' Christmas. Very Happy

What a sweetheart! That is so awesome-- and the "maybe Muska's not such a bad guy after all" comments are seriously funny. You go, anonymous cartoon character do-gooders!!

Whenever I feel I lose faith in humanity I hear stories like this. Whoever does this does not do this for fame or money they do it to help kids. They use their own money probably to help these kids for last couple of years and you hear every year more people inspired to do to help out.

I applaud his generosity. What makes this largesse even more laudable is how he went out of his way to remain anonymous.

According to the Tokushima head office of Asahi Shimbun, this 'Colonel Muska' is a 2channeller and he polished the wording of the letter to the children with his fellow 2channellers in the thread on 2ch about presenting leather backpacks to children.

Muska has become a bit of a meme in Japan, being put in fanart in strange, usually humiliating and perfectly tame situations with other Laputa (and sometimes random Ghibli) characters. Sometimes they go go-karting with bowser.

This depiction is from that trend, I would wager.
