I must say that any show that resorts to using a fanservice beach episode has very low confidence both in its viewerbase and its own quality.

Almost everything has beach chapters/episodes. Its just a standard of the medium. |

Eh, as long as they keep the TV series relatively tame I don't mind a fanservice/beach OVA.

I dunno how I feel about this. I am normally very pro-fanservice, but GuP hasn't had a speck of it to date and I really love the show. It's going to be kind of like seeing your cute little sister suddenly show up in a bikini out of the blue.
... I just realized that for a lot of anime fans, that's not a bad thing. |

I wonder why nobody ever realizes that maybe they put this stuff in because the people who make anime like this tend to like fanservice? I'm pretty sure something like To Love Ru doesn't have fanservice to pander... its becauses its mangaka loves the fanservice and has been drawing doujins for a while before being picked up by Jump. Its otaku making manga/anime for otaku.

Odd, I thought To LOVE-Ru was made because Black Cat was so excruciatingly awful and poorly received (even after being turned into an anime which also bombed) and so Yabuki wanted a hit series and thusly abandoned all dignity and joined up with "writer" Saki Hasemi to create one of the blandest soulless ecchi harem series ever conceived.

If Black Cat wasn't already a hit, he wouldn't of gotten a chance to make another Jump manga. It was made because people wanted more of Yabukis art.

And even so, he and the writer wouldn't have made Darkness so overabundant with nudity if they didn't want to do it.
As for the fanservice here, it's pretty tame, just girls in swimsuits. Chagen, give it a rest on trying to prove how mature you are. Fanservice is an anime constant, even in the 70s. |
