Episode 1
This was my first time watching Initial D. I love cars and races and was surprised there was an anime about it. The only thing I didn't like was spoiler[the character animation. It was kinda old fashioned.. Takumi's love life problems were fun to watch. The imposters issue was dealt with in a really cool way ^^ Car, competition, romance and day-to-day problems pretty much sums up this anime.] |

it is a long running series. and it'd look really odd if they upgraded the characters in just this season.
when you've watched this set of series from the start you get used to the characters as they are. besides the over exaggerated expressions can be funny in themselves and they like to play with it in this show. |

Yow, watching this made me realize how long it's been since I've last watched the series or read the manga. Gonna have to go back and marathon the first four stages just to remember exactly where we're at in the story.
And yeah, Initial D has always had ugly characters... but that's not why you watch it! The cars are the stars here, so it's easy to overlook the bad character animation. Oh, and you can't forget the awesome Eurobeat soundtrack ![]() |

The summer break conversation toward the beginning had me wanting to yell "Finally! An anime that gets it!"
The character designs are definitely showing their age, but I still like it. |

It was actually kind of jarring to watch this episode. I mean, the crude character designs were now animated in nice modern-day quality, it was bizarre to look at them. I do like the opening and how it showed the old animation style in the races and then upgraded it to the new style - nice touch there.
This was a fairly decent reintroduction to the cast and story. Sure, the episode was mostly people standing around talking. But it's been a couple of years since I watched 4th Stage (and it's been six years since it finished airing) so it's nice to be eased back into the franchise. |
