well...not really that into j-pop...other than what I hear in anime, but I don't go and find out about the performers usually, though I do enjoy L'Arc en Ciel...

-Chemistry (Really good)
-Puffy AmiYumi (Teen Titans Theme on CN this Saturday, new album next month)
-Nami Tamaki (Generic music, but I like her voice...a little deeper than Hayashibara's)
-Hyde and the rest of L'Arc-En-Ciel (and they're coming back with a new album!)
-the brilliant green (maybe...a little boring, imo)
-Iwao Junko (Ceres OP and Perfect Blue...awesome.)
-Anything with Maaya Sakamoto and Yoko Kanno

I wish TWO-MIX would, well, mix it up a bit more. I tired of them a while ago...

-Yumi Shizugusa (pop-heavy, but I just like the sound)
-Aiko Kitahara (same)
-Crystal Kay (Sony should use her more...)

...and probably many more, but that's all I can remember off the top of my head.

Most of J-pop really sucks. This is like saying who is your favorite pop singer here in America. Unless you have no taste for music, I don't see how you can appreciate Japanese or American pop singers. They are both pretty lame.

Oh, come on. I don't consider myself someone who has "no taste for music," but whatever. Certainly, there is a lot of sub-par pop music out there, but it's not all bad--at least, in my opinion.

A little OT, but what music do you like?

Hands down Show-Ya IMO. I ended up buying all 11 of their classic re-releases, but never ended up buying any of their post Keiko Terada albums. Terada's solo stuff is great too, and if you are not familiar with her work, check out the 2nd Borgman OP/ED. Show-Ya did the music for Burai and Cleopatra DC. Does anyone have an opinion about the two post Terada singers for the band?
Is the Kyoko from the ending credits of Boogiepop Phantom the same as the Kyoko from Barbee Boys? I swear she sounds exactly the same if not. I've looked around the web and can;'t seem to find any new info about any of the band members. For those who don't follow J-pop Barbee Boys do Shot (short?) Sunzen on the To-y BGM. Kyoko was always my favorite (sorry Konta) from that band, and I'm really interested in hearing more of her solo stuff.
Although they are J-Rock, I'm a huge X fan. What an evolution the band went through from Vanashing Vision to Daliah. I can't believe the band which wrote I'll Kill You also wrote Longing! For those of you who don't follow J-Rock you can hear X on the video X^2 where it is paired up with CLAMP's X. (just to stay OT)

My post was OT too, but anyways, However, You seem to agree that most of J-pop isn't that great. Now, to answer your question. My taste in music covers the whole spectrum of music and back, so I couldn't exactlty tell you what I like. However, I can tell you that Music is my other biggest passion and that I find music to be one of the most magnificent wonders in the world.

I like:

Utada Hikaru (my favorite female singer)
Hamasaki Ayumi (her voice grows on you)
Nakajima Miyuki (she has a powerful voice)
Hajime Chitose (her unique "shima-uta" background makes her songs awesome! She's said to have the "voice of god")
MISIA (R&B music)
RUI--Shibazaki Kou (ethreal voice)
Amuro Namie (she's from Okinawa, I'm from Okinawa Smile Besides, I like her voice)

B'z (my favoite male singer)
Mr. Children
RIP SLYME (fun rap music)
EXILE (similar to Chemistry, but more upbeat songs)
Southern All Stars (I love "Tsunami". I like their other songs, too.)

Onitsuka Chihiro.

Absolutely fabulous music. Writes all her own music, extremely prolific, really strong lyrics (often, but not always with a Christian theme or message) that have a clarity that I generally don't see in j-pop lyrics. Great voice.
