This buy-out defeats the whole purpose of Pixar's existence. Well this and Cars.

Considering how this merger allegedly gives Pixar a lot of sway within Disney, we could (and very likely will) still in fact see them committing more to projects on their own terms than those of Disney's own creative team. |

This isn't a bad thing at all. Mike Eisner, the man who turned Disney from the masters who brought us Beauty and the Beast and Alaadin into the hacks who brought us Cinderella 2 and Recess the Movie, is no longer with the company. And with this deal, Steve Jobs is one of the most powerful members of Disney's board, and the current head of Disney's (mostly pitiful) animation department quit yesterday. Chances are his successor will be John Lasseter, the man in charge of Pixar. Lasseter is a genius, not to mention a huge animation fan (and that includes anime-you've seen him gushing about Miyazaki on the Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky DVD's) and now the guy will most likely be in charge of Pixar AND Disney animation. This could be awesome.

I'd like to point out that Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, and Aladdin, some of the best movies that Disney has ever made, were produced while Eisner was in control. |

If you actualy bothered to read the article, its Disney surrendering to Pixar. Ed Catmull and Lasseter are taking over control of Disney's animation studio, Jobs is now the most powerful board member, Lasseter will be one of the principle designers for new attractions at the theme parks. I don't call that selling out to Disney, I call it completely taking it over. That and Pixar will remain seperate from Disney much like ESPN has remained distant from the company even though Disney bought them out long ago. Hey, cool. If that's the case, maybe Disney's own animated films will hopefully not suck. (Obligatory DTV Classic Disney Sequals notwithstanding)
And in response to the the person who quoted me- Great, then I still look foward to seeing Pixar's future projects (might I add that their previous ones are still great) |

I kind of agree with Bamboo. While Eisner probably didn't have a direct hand in creating any of those, they were made under him.
And while many people have criticized hime lately, he was Disney's golden boy for many years, he turned that company around. Even Roy Disney said that, while he wants Eisner out now, Eisner saved Disney. He stated something along the lines that Eisner was exactly what Disney needed at a certain point in time, but his expertise is not what Disney needs right now. -t |

What has not been pointed out here is that Steve Jobs, co-founder and CEO of Apple Computer, becomes the largest single stock holder of The Walt Disney Companies and gets a senior position on the board of directors. Any one who knows Steve realizes that he is NOT a hands off executive. Expect MANY changes in the way ALL of Disney operates about a year from now.
Expect a lot more partnerships with Apple and ESPN, ABS, Miamax, Touchstone, Disney Imagineering and much more |

As long as their films (Pixar, I mean) don't start start spiraling downhill, this isn't bad news. Unless Steve Jobs starts doing stuff with the movies (assuming he's not a pro at filmmaking) there shouldn't be any problem.

My first thought was a Toy Story level in Kingdom Hearts 3. This should open things up so that Square Enix can use Pixar properties in the next game. It will be on PS3 so I bet they can get it looking very good.

You've got a point there. This could be a good thing if Lasseter takes more controll over the animation Disney produces. But I stand by my word, if Disney ever produces a sequel to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, I will never watch another Disney movie ever again. |
