So.. this is a bad thing? How so? Granted, Bebop is the only Sony handled anime I've experienced, but they seemed to do a good job.

The movies is the one they did a very good job in. It's the TV series they handled is what made people feel a little edgy on especially with the way they handled Cyborg 009 for only releasing only part of the series on DVD and having dubtitles; I don't know too much about Astro Boy [2003] though.

Of course, Cyborg 009 is a kids' show, whereas Blood+ is nothing of the sort. That might be a good sign.

They let Astro Boy and Cyborg 009 to rotten. Made Memories and Tokyo Godfathers look like art films and didn't gave them a proper anime release. Took their sweet time with the Bebop movie and fansubs and illegal DVD took their sales away. Steamboy had it high and lows also. Sony don't know how to handle anime period.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Steamboy. I never saw it in theaters, but the (Gift Set) DVD is nice. I actually did get to see Bebop at a college arthouse when it was out in limited release, which was a fun experience because most of the audience consisted of anime fans.

I'm going to be pretty optimistic since I've been waiting for Blood+ to get licensed. Maybe they'll learn from past mistakes.

All you need to know about Sony and their anime releases is in their short lived english only Samurai X (Rurouni Kenshin OVAs) release prior to ADV taking that title off their hands. IMHO, they have not improved much.

I bet this is some marketing execs ambitious attempt at trying to make Sony a major player in Anime outside of Japan. It only makes me worry what title may be next...

I just hope they let subs finish because I really want to see the rest of the series... doesn't help that Shinsen is subbing and they have already been in trouble with various companies Anime cry

Well, it'll certainly be interesting to see how this turns out.

Of course, this is just a flash in the pan for Sony, but that's beside the point.

On the one hand, their TV sereis track record is rather dodgy. On the other hand, the only TV series they've handled so far have been extremely niche titles; remakes of old 50s and 60s series with a limited appeal. Blood+ is the big budget TV adaptation of a reasonably popular film on this side of the country, originating from a very well known and very well respected Japanese animation house, and is just all-around a much, much more high profile series than the aforementioned duo. I highly doubt that Sony'd try anything like what they did with Cyborg 009 & Astro Boy '03 in this situation.

They didn't handle Cowboy Bebop, it was Bandai Entertainment/ZRO Limit.

Where'd you get Sony from?

Yes they did. Sony handled the movie.
