No....way.....
I like Japanese anime...but Japanese films nowadays tries to be Hollywood: shallow storyline and 2 dimensional characters with big budget CGI to cover it up. I mean there are few decent films by Takeshi Kitano and Iwai Shunji. I feel reluctant about this upcoming movie. A notable example is "She the Ultimate Weapon" which looks kinda lame with over-exaggerated sentiments (even though I love sentimental movies, the live action movies feel too artificial).

That's pretty cool, if we're assuming the movies are going to be well made. I've been wanting to see an movie/series version of Death Note, but I'd rather not see any mess-ups and poorly portrayed scenes.

Those actors from the live-action Devil Man would be perfect.

This is pretty interesting.
I love Death Note, and I think that the plot sounds like something that would make a good movie. I just hope that maybe this'll lead to an anime version of the series.

it worked for Boogiepop. Let alone I may be the only person who thinks that a live-action version would work best. just me so yeah.
Why two movies!? that simple to answer.
one would be on the first arc. the 2nd on the second arc.
.. L.. and Light.. who whould play them..

Considering the movies might be around two hours each, making the total four hours, that's not anywhere near ten volumes of material, especially when it's a dialogue-centric manga.
Most anime series cover like, what, three chapters per every half hour/episode? There are over 90 chapters to Death Note currently.
I do hope the movies are well done, and I can't say I'm that excited about them because Death Note seems like a hard thing to pull off correctly, with all the dialogue going on...
I'm still hoping for an animated version.

Awesome news. Death Note is one of those series that might actually work better as a live action movie than as an anime.

If they are gonna make it into a movie, then you noe that if they want to get in the whole story, a lot of the material from the manga is gonna be cut short like crazy! (unless they are planning to make more).
Its going to be really hard for them to choose what are the most important, core parts of the story, but at the same time, trying not to disappoint fans. I mean, a lot of us know how it is with Harry Potter >.>..... but unless they are making this just simply for entertainment purposes - which will be ok - but it still won't be as satisfying for some.
The movies probably would have real quick, to-the-point scenes and it would lose alot of the excitement and detail, but that's what you can expect. Unless they want to make it a 3hour long movie like LOTR...-__- I guess that's why they are making more than 1 because there is no way they can get in a lot of good quality stuff in ONE movie. Besides, its more to look forward to.
A live action movie will probably be a better choice if they want to give it a good 'serious-boost', just like Battle Royale, because its hard to imagine a real intense storyline like Death Note coloured (no matter what style) 0.0 but I want to anyway, just for the fun of it
But all in all....we all want to see who plays Light and L dont we?

Well, even though it'll never get animated, at least the original source material is realistic-looking enough to justify the shift to live-action. Er...realistic except for the shinigami and Death Notes, I mean.
