I noticed that Viz will be continuing to publish Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix in their new signature line, starting with volume 6 this May. But will they be republishing the old volumes in that format? I've been wanting to collect the series for a while, and held off when I heard they were putting it into the signature line... But its seems that the older volumes are going out of print really quickly. Does anyone know if they'll republish them in the new format? Or should I buy the old ones while I can?

Given Viz's history with reprints, I'd say there is a somewhat decent chance that they might reprint vol 1-5, but I really couldn't say so for sure. Before, when they reprinted, it was because a series started out in Left-to-right format, and then was switched over to right-to-left (they did this for both Fushigi Yuugi and Ceres: Celestial Legend).

These releases don't come out any faster than regular releases though, and if they aren't changing the translation at all (I don't believe the Ceres or FY translations were changed at all), then you probably might as well buy the original editions.

Is there even a big enough market for a reprint? I can understand popular titles, but Phoenix didn't really do as hot as Viz wanted it to do. I believe it is likely a continuation like Vagabond is, but don't let the format scare you. Just because it's L to R doesn't make it any less enjoyable....you're really anal about it being japanese format and it's always in the back of your mind.

Since they're making the effort to continue it, Viz will probobly take the time to actually promote Phoenix, so I could see them doing reprints of old volumes.
