Dang it. Am I the ONLY one who just wanted to see what they had on the menu?
Or if they had butlers?
If I'm ever in Motown, I'll check it out. |
They have a menu on.
And they at best have 15-16 employees, and like 3 of which are Butlers.

I've been on internet message boards since 2004, and this is the funniest post I've ever read.
Cheers.

The article said there's one butler.

Unfortnately here in Motown, our "Moe" is just "Mo", and the hot chicks will always work at Hooters where the tips are better. Too bad, because I'm genuinely loving the idea of something fun like that around here.

Glad to see, reading these comments, that I'm not alone in that. TBH that picture kinda scares me, that "maid" on the left looks like she's ready to act out a horror movie with what looks to be a creepy surgical mask on. Either that, or she's sick and taking a note from Asian culture (and doin' it wrong). Both sound bad. I'm not sure which is worse.
Who was convinced that this was a good idea? Next question is: why are they all wearing pink? I've never had a maid, probably never will, but anime and tv have taught me that they're supposed to be clad in black...and I realize that I might have just set myself up for an obvious bad-taste joke. Oh well....
CrunchyRoll's Article wrote: | Describing the concept of moe to the the Detroit News, Samet likens it to "when you hold a baby or you pet a puppy or a kitten." |
Well, that is hilarious...hilariously wrong. I'm not sure that people get aroused by holding a baby or find petting a kitten extremely erotic (if they do, I must have missed that Memo to Men), but they certainly find moe girls erotic. Creepy comparison fail.
CrunchRoll's Article wrote: | "When you come you're supposed to get that feeling of happiness and warmness. So that's why the girls wear the costumes," |
Okay, that's just too wrong. But also too damn funny...okay, I'm rofling |
just to stir up some fun I don't find moe~ girls erotic.. just moe=cute or that is the intention of the word. I really don't think that word was ever meant to say a character is hot or erotic but that's just me.

If there has been a few Maid Cafes that have been standing here in America for quite some time, I never detected their presence...until now. I must say, this is absolutely an amazing sight to behold. I'm willing to bet that I would have a real blast at this cafe if I were to appear there.

Someone stated that to be a Japanese maid cafe, one must BE or at least SPEAK Japanese. As true as that MAY be, it is NOT a JAPANESE Maid Cafe. It is ONLY an Anime Maid Cafe, INSPIRED by Japanese Culture...And some of the maids actually DO speak Japanese there, and they speak it awfully well. |

You are correct. I swear the US Otakus and weebawoo's heads just exploded when this story came up. I think it's a good thing, and a good thing for the city. Any small busy that can start up and have a cliental that will support is all good.
I forgot who said it but I don't expect Japanese McDonald's or KFC to have a strictly US menu or employees that have to speak English when I go to Japan. They will alter their menus to the locals but still have the same ambiance.
Just enjoy this place for what it is. If you don't like it, go start your own and only hire cute/moe Japanese girls and men.

And they won't by the opinions of the people of Detroit and it's suburbs. As "good" as Robocop was, we don't want to be reminded how the movie made Detroit to look like some dysoptic, crime-infested city. As bad as the city is right now they still have a pride and are trying to work it's way out. There are a lot of good stuff going on in the city proper.

Peanut butter goes great with chocolate or jelly. But it still maintains a unique existence as peanut butter. Peanut butter is neither chocolate nor jelly.
Moe is like peanut butter.
Moe is often served with romance and/or sexuality. But it still maintains a unique existence as moe. Moe is neither romance nor sexuality.
I've been to the Royal T once. I just found out via this news article that I won't be able to go again.
update: as much as people are criticizing the appearance of the waitresses, I think the food menu needs improvement first. The selection looks so boring. Of course, my only experience in an American maid cafe involved a prime rib sandwich and linguine in lobster sauce. So my expectations are probably high.

Just give it time. It just opened in June and it's evolving and the menu will expand. You can't start a business and have everything in place all at once. You need input from your customers what they would like to see.

Actually no, they're far more inspired by classic Japanese ideals.
Think of the classic british or european maid and you'll see the ideal of that is completely different than the "maid" in a maid cafe, which is much more based on the perfect ideal of a japanese wife than anything else (aside from the outf. |
I know they're different, but I was mainly talking about the outfit and foods. So yeah. ^^;;
To think that it's not (or has no trace) is a bit naive.
