I see Sawako from K-ON! is in the tournament. I wonder who is the oldest human entry left at this point (not counting eldritch horrors like Nyarlathotep).

They are people who found Yunoha from Aquarion EVOL anything but irritating, especially post Episode 14?
Huh. Color me surprised.

Technically, since Hanasaku Iroha ended in September, their cast is elegible for the contest. So yeah, that would mean that Mrs. Sui Shijima is elegible, right?

Last year she got taken out round 1. I really wouldn't bet on her this year.

She was anti-voted by Biribiri fanboys. And then, they returned the favor. Neither Misaka or Madoka girls are elegible this year, so it will be interesting to see who takes the crown.
Early favorites:
K-On! girls
Sena and Kobato from Haganai
Shana
Nyaruko

Wait, Persona 4 is eligible and Yukiko isn't in? How the heck did that happen? I figured she would be a favorite.

Saki characters enough said. You don't have many power houses this year and with age catching up on a number of recurring characters (e.g. Hidamari, Hayate no Gotoku!, Kugi lolis, Strike Witches, K-ON!, Higurashi) the battle may really come down to Yuru Yuri and Saki (I'm looking at you Block B). Despite being completely overwhelmed by Madoka Magica last year, the so called last year power houses like Ika Musume, Hanasaku Iroha, and Infinite Stratos have also all waned in strength as they struggled just to make it past this year's prelims.
Funny thing to note is how Yuka Iguchi stacked is in Block A (Maho, Mero, and Maria all in the same block and effectively same column). Block C as well with Tamayura characters one after another (all 4 in fact).
Another thing to note is that this may be the year with the most Precures thus far despite having 9 series already. It's the first where the cast has done so well.
Picks for this year so far:
Bold character names, imply top picks for blocks...
Block A: Remon, Kobato Hasegawa, Reika Aoki, Koromo, Miki Hoshii, Tomoka Minato
Block B: Yuka Hanaki, Shinobu Oshino, Hanyuu, Toki, Tsumiki, Azusa
Block C: Kyouko Toshinou, Yayoi Kise
Block D: Hinata Hakamada, Madoka Kyouno, Nagi Sanzenin, Louise, Yuuko Shionji, Fear Kubrick
Block E: Erio Touwa, Yunoha Thrul, Hinagiku, Erika Kurumi, Taiga Aisaka
Block F: Nyaruko, Nadeko Sengoku, Eru, Dalian, Yukari (for the trolls), Miyako, Ririchiyo.
Block G: Rena, Ako, Nodoka
Block H: Shana, Rika, Eu Hellscythe, Sena

Loved Yunoha from beginning to end

Last year it was Sui (the grandmother) from Hanasaku Iroha. Irisviel may give Sawako a run for that if you count her as "human." Other than that, it may be Yoshinoya.

Harue made it through qualifiers didn't she? Or any of the Achiga announcers? I'd say they have the chance at the being the oldest. especially the one in her 40s

A lot of Rie Kugimiya's tsunderes are competing in the same year. I never thought this would happen.
Taiga, won 1st place in 2009. Group E
Nagi won 2nd place in 2007 and 2010. Group D
Shana was in top 4 in 2006, top 8 in 2010, top 16 in 2007 & 2008. Group H
Louise was in top 8 in 2007 & 2009. Group D
Aria was in top 32 in 2011. Group G
Lotte was in top 8 in 2011. Group C
Iori. Group B
It's a shame Louise and Nagi are in the same group. But who knows that maybe 6 of these will make to the top 8.
