No, it's not that they're really desparate, he's just tossing out the job offerings in a forum populated by anime fans in case they're interested. Many people are always asking how to get into the anime/manga biz, and this might be of interest to them.

However, though I know Tokyopop centers on manga releases more than anime releases, it might be a better idea for you to repost this in the Anime forum rather than the Manga forum, which tends to be much slower and less visited. Also, try sending something to the site administrators like Chris, who might put it up as a news post on the front page.

I don't think Tokyopop really started this thread. I think it's just some random dude who has too much time on his hands and created a gag thread.

edit = to fix my grammar. I'm quite uptight about my grammar. Kinda sad but true.

Well then, it's not really a good joke they're playing then, since there are jobs being offered at the link they're providing, and they seem to have created that account just to post about the jobs, seeing as their post count of 2 can be found in this thread.

They actually already have posted it on the front page, which makes it odd as to why they're trying to stir up so much interest in the subject on a forum with a good deal of users who are still in high school. Not that it's al that strange, he/she just sounded a bit desperate by the second post.

we're not desperate at all...but i thought it'd be better to offer these jobs to otaku instead of looking for random people on monster.com and craigslist...it only seems right that people who love anime and manga work for our company...

it's funny how you automatically think it's a joke when someone brings up the subject of job opportunities in the industry...

i do in fact work for Tokyopop and i do love my job...

sorry if i sounded desperate by saying "anybody?"...i just wanted to bump the thread back up without saying "bump"...

anime and manga appeals to age groups from child to adult...just because most of you are in high school doesn't mean you can't work for us...if you're naturally talented and have the skills to succeed that's just as much credit as having attended college...a really nice portfolio is just as good as a degree in the eyes of an employer...

If you were interested in someone to handle your web development end, I would be all over that. Getting paid to work in this field would be like merging three of my favorite things, code w/ design w/ anime. I really couldnt go wrong with something like that. Wink

I'd probobly have taken it more seriously if proper grammar was used. Don't mean to be a prick, but that's simply what came to mind when I first came upon this post.

Which is commendable. Even though I'm not a huge fan of most of Tokyopop's matterials (or the AMerican market at this moment), I still admire their attitude towards buisness. Great market insight, improved materials/translations, strong relations to the fan community and a strong push to make OEL manga a respectble force (though most of the initial works have been mediocre).

Sorry for jumping to conclusions. It's just weird that you would post a thread like this when clearly there is a link on the front page declaring job opportunities. I thought someone was making a gag thread to state the obvious. As well, it looks like you just registered a few days ago so the pieces of the puzzle came together in my over-active imagination. My bad!

Kudos for looking for people with an actual passion for the subject rather than something to fall back on.

Too bad you don't need proofreaders who majored in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Technical consulting.....you know where to find me.....

Hm... how often to you set up internships? I noticed that on your website and always wondered about that... I was thinking of doing that for my collegiate Independent Study, but I'm not sure what it would entail at this point.

On a seperate subject, is there ANY way to contact someone in your sales department regarding an order? No one responds to emails, and no one answers when I call the number I was given... :/

Actually, perhaps Tokyopop needs such researchers. I can count at least 40 seperate instances where Tokyopop has gotten some automotive facts wrong in Initial D. 10 I think is due to sheer lazyness.

well i'll be working on Initial D vol. 22 so hopefully that book will be somewhat accurate...

personally i agree that we do need researchers to improve the quality of our manga...however it's a detail that the higher ups and the executives are overlooking...you might want to send a proposal to apply as one to [email protected] (that email goes straight to our Human Resources manager)

factual accuracy would be the Script Editor's fault...most of them are creative writing hipsters who don't pay much attention to the automotive scene...

it's also my job to work with the editors and give my input on what i think would improve the quality of the text...whenever i'm lettering a book i read over the script and if i catch a mistake i bring it to the editors attention and have it revised...even though i'm just a Layout Artist i take interest in handling quality control and market research on books i'm personally assigned...

luckily i have a broad range of interests so i am knowledgeable in multiple fields...however if someone is given a book to work on where the subject matter is beyond their range of knowledge then mistakes are bound to slip by...
