Well, me, for one. I love Mannheim Steamroller.

The thing is, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien was released two years ago (the first episode aired 10-05-2003, first DVD released 2-25-2004). It finished on TV in the beginning of '04, when companies started their licensing spree. |

I would just like to add that the O'Sullivan song was also used in the Live-action movie version of Maison Ikkoku.

Was I the only one that read "Satanman" when they first looked at it? I've never entered one of the caption contests before, do I need to include any info with my entry? And are we only allowed one caption in our email? I've come up with a couple I like.

I allways thought those shows (AIR, Kanon, KGNE) were aimed towards teenage girls. Now I don't feel so bad

I thought you knew their 'origins'. Although they could attract additional (new) fans, they aim primary on fans of the original game: gal-game fans, which composed a big portion of Japanese otakudom but not US fandom. However, I still don't understand why US licensors whould rather import some crappy and/or even more niched titles instead of those highly-acclaimed ones. High royalties might be a reason. Key asked for 100M yen for the game license and might still have a seat to express their concerns even if the anime adaptation was produced by Kyoto Animation (Key Sound Label still has the right of its OST); I don't know how much Age would ask though. That's a good way to describe them, "we took all the porno out so now it's mostly sad girls in snow," lol. Though to be fair, Kanon's the only one with a single flake of snow
 .
I'm not a marketing expert, but of those three, I think at least KgNE could be marketed to girls. It's just as melodramatic and soap opera-esque as anything on WB primetime. Heck, if they need to trick out the dub, just change the names of Takayuki, Shinji, Haruka, and Mitsuki to Dawson, Pacey, Joey, and Jenn  Then again, despite the cute girls, many guys don't like shows like this because there's too much syrupy romance, the pace is too slow, and there's no ninjas/giant robots/stuff getting blown up.
Maybe Media Blasters or RightStuf will come through for us someday. Time for an e-mail campaign. Though perhaps, if To Heart makes any headway, it can open the gates for more dating sim-based anime. Or, as a final possibility, the licensees may be staying away from niche shows with a large fansub following. After all, they can make more money from the casual audience that sees something like Naruto on CN and buys DVDs, as opposed to the hardcore fans with advanced knowledge of every codec, torrent site/client and media player needed to get all the downloaded anime they want, and hundreds of GB of HD space to store it all. Still, I've seen numerous fans on fansub forums say that they would buy DVDs from this genre of show. So in conclusion, the more legit DVDs we buy, the more money they have to take a chance on a niche show. |

It never stops amusing me just how far this joke gets around.
I personally would love to see Air licensed, as I don't have over $300 to spend for DVDs of a 13-episode series. Heck, release it on 4 discs at $30 each and it'd still be like a third the price of trying to get the R2s. But really, that's a series that could probably get away with a low-key, sub-only release. Hey, I can dream, can't I? |

I remember reading that Key wanted silly money for the Kanon (anime) rights too, which is why this 2002 release never got out of Japan
As for Gilbert O'Sulivan, he's a British artist (born in Ireland). Alone Again (Naturally) only got to 3 over here (1972 - I was 8  ).
Personally, I'd rather listen to Ramstien or the Murder Dolls, or better yet HojoKaidan. JBV^_^ |

Regarding the Beck question, it should be noted that in the series, the band's name isn't Beck in the United States because of the solo Beck. Their US label changes their name to Mongolian Chop Squad.
