Looks to me like they are putting a lot of work into a commercial ad of their studio. And why did they need to promote their studio anyway?

Nothing wrong with brand recognition especially with their solid track record compared to other animation studios. And besides, there could be hope it'll attract other production companies like Aniplex or Bandai Visual to hire them for some project. |

I don't think that's the case. Aniplex owns A-1 studio and Bandai owns Sunrise. Kyoto animation has strong backing from Kadokawa. Nowadays studios are opening side businesses to generate revenue outside of production contracts. Maybe the commercial is meant for luring people to buy items from the studio. If they need to promote their animation production business, then they could just do it at Tokyo Anime Fair. TAF is where deals are made. |

When you allow your goods to be handled by a 3rd party, they take a cut. By selling KyoAni-store exclusive items they [Kyoani] should get 100% of the profits, it's a smart move on their behalf.
I have a few points I'd disagree with here, firstly that I think KyoAni is vastly overrated and secondly it won't attract them at all, production companies handle the merchandise and get a lot of their money that way, if Kyoani are hoping to make more money from their own goods then I'd say that if anything they are not satisfied with whatever Kadokawa-Shoten has been doing, which would not surprise me considering that there is a lot of talk of companies like Aniplex and Kadokawa-Shoten putting the financial pinch on the studios and resorting to guerrilla marketing tactics etc. I wonder if Kadokawa are taking too big of a slice, I saw a short piece on Japanese News about the animation industry and how studios were unable to produce what they wanted as their financial backing comes from production companies and said companies are forcing them to make strictly profitable series, hence the sheer number of 1-cour throwaway 'merchandise-able' series we've seen sharply rise over the past few years or so. |

I don't really like little busters
assuming they make 'good' items exclusive stuff tends to be cheaply made I dont know about kyoani specifically though but if anything says 'limited edition' and sold in america I usually don't bother anymore |

I've found it subbed Australian news website, they put a bit of an extremist twist on it but ignore that and listen to what the workers themselves say, it's pretty interesting and I hadn't seen all of this myself. http://www.sbs.com.au/news/video/l240602/%7Btitle%7D |

I just want you to realize you just disrespected every other studio in Japan, who has exceptional artists on staff no different than KyoAni. It's not their fault production committees don't give them budgets to turn every series into eye candy. It wouldn't surprise me there's more money into this 30 second ad than a good number of titles released this season were given to produce. |

Kyoani is the most advanced studio in Japan right now, Toshiyuki Inoue said it. The budget may help but the talent is the real key. They have talented animators that are in house( Kyoani is the Barcelona of the animation industry in Japan), the industry is pretty much filled with freelance animators and not many studios can keep them for all their projects. Kyoani is a well oiled machine. They have a really good training program for young animators, and they get better and better with each show because they are good at keeping their talented animators with them when others studios don't. It's that simple. Toshiyuki Inoue said it best and he is not a random guy in the street. He is a really amazing animator with insane skills.
