I'm happy with their current site for manga that I want to "collect", but I don't want to collect everything that I'd like to read. The new site seems to be about filling that gap. And with their recent change in their system, you don't have to be signed up as a JManga subscriber anymore to buy manga ~ you can just be a free member and buy points as you want them. |

 Two questions:
1) Where can we find more information on this? I'm still confused on the details. 2) When is this website launching (i.e. August, September, etc.) or even a general season (i.e. summer 2012, Fall 2012, etc.)? |

Sounds really cool!
I'm extremely cheap, so this sounds perfect for me. Can they get titles other publishers have or only unlicensed series?
EDIT: Never mind, I glanced through some of their catalog and saw some stuff that's been license, so I'm assuming they can in most cases. |

CRUNCHYROLL for MANGA!!! Crunchyroll for manga!!! I've been waiting years for this!
I love manga (possibly even more than anime), and I never understood why manga publishers couldn't set up a Crunchyroll model to "compete" with the likes of OneManga and MangaFox, who obviously make money from the ads surrounding their pirated goods. I don't have the cash or the shelf space to get all the manga I want (not that there"s a limit on how much manga I may want to read), and libraries (my preferred source) only carry so much. And then licensing is risky. If an excellent manga didn't sell well enough, good luck finding anything else by that manga-ka even as the original goes out of print (Please Save My Earth, anyone?) This is a manga fan's dream, and I only hope it does well and grows exponentially. And I really, really hope, for everyone's sake, that it's profitable! Go, JManga! |

hmm will this new site also be international or just within the US? "JManga is currently available worldwide"
I can see that a lot of people from across the world would want to have this feature, and would love to throw money at it. But it's just that licensing rights are a bitch..... hopefully this project will take the same turn Jmanga did when they went worldwide |

I think the main reason is that manga tend to be much longer, so it's more of an investment and more of a risk. Additionally, unless it's a spin off or by a popular mangaka, there's almost no way to see what's going to be popular until a lot of chapters have been released, which would make it harder to select profitable series. |

I think that's what the JManga volume releases have done ~ reduced the risk of licensing for digital distribution. Once the mangaka / agent is willing to license digital collection rights, willingness to license first release limited-time digital rights becomes a natural next step, especially since its likely to promote volume sales over time. |

tl;dr: So, is this a legal version of Mangafox? Will it be available worldwide, or is it the same region-locked BS? I don't really understand ANN's article. Sorry for that.

While this is exciting news (and there a few Tokyopop & Del Rey titles I would love to see finish), I didn't see anything about the ability to download chapters or volumes. I would have subscribed to J Manga ages ago since I like their diversity & I can afford it but I would like to have my own digital copy of what I read. That plus, I rather buy/import a physical copy than rent it/read it online where my account could possibly be hacked. Or I could lose the content that I had already purchased and I might have to buy it again. |
