Thank you Rebecca! That was an extremely well written and informative review!

I am a fan of this show, as people who have seen my posts on other talkback topics for other articles or columns that featured the show will already know. (I can be a bit vocal at times... Wink ) I was a fan of the show when I saw it on Hulu a while back, but it wasn't until I saw the first two episodes dubbed that I decided to buy it. (Thank you Funimation for offering that teaser on Hulu! It worked as planned, for me at least!)

I was already a fan of Brina Palencia and was very pleased with her performance here, but the deal maker was Luci Christian's Narrator! It is pure genius! (My main complaint about the show when I first watched it was how hard it was to keep up with the subtitles when the narrator was talking over the other characters, leading to a stop-and-go feel to the show, since I had to stop and sometimes go back to catch what was said, killing the timing of the humor. The dub totally solved that problem!)

I do recall being a bit taken aback by Ryoko's back-story the first time I saw the show, though it wasn't enough to make me dislike it, and I am one of the rare individuals that actually like the way that story arc leads to a bit more romantic development than would be there otherwise. However, I was not aware of the "Little Red Ridinghood as rape allegory" theory, though it is quite obvious when I think about it. The fact that the author used this concept doesn't surprise me in the least. There was obviously a ton of research into the various fairy tales used in the show.

Overall, I find this show to be a very funny, sometimes touching, well crafted yarn.

Well the series sounds interesting enough. Though it sounds like the editor is a Luci fanatic though it's not susprising.

Hopefully the narration wont be over the up unlike the extremely over the top when Sabat was narrator for the Negima Neo series.

Not to mentioned the comedy wont fall flat on itself while trying to be serious too. Shuffle made that mistake ( even though it was a good series. ) & as a result it didn't do too well in the US.

However those pursuits will definitely cringe about any rewrites on some lines but at least it's not done ala Stephen Foster.

SO in a way ,the series could fall flat on it's face but also have the potential to leave a good inpression for the US otaku community.

Huh, interesting. A co-worker had asked me to order this for him last time Rightstuf had a Funimation sale, so I did, but I didn't have any idea what it was about.

Maybe I'll ask to borrow it; from the review, I'd probably never buy this kind of show myself, but it sounds like it might be worth at least watching once.

Yup, I agree w/the scores of the review and probably one of those series that I've watched for entertainment value but not considered excellence/masterpiece.

I can still remember that narrator's voice while reading the review Twisted Evil

the show was good to watch the first time but trying to rewatch it was not so much. I will probably purchase it during a sale or something but 35$ is not bad at all if you have not seen it yet.

If I was going to make a video game, okami and her knuckles would definitely be in it.

Actually Shuffle! sold surprisingly well, enough that FUNi started cramming more extras into the later volumes. Shuffle!'s success was enough that FUNi started picking up more shows like it.

Anyway, Luci Christian can basically voice an entire family at this point, can't she? Anime hyper We got young girl, young boy, adorable-sounding teen girl, tough teen girl, smooth-voiced adult woman, husky-voiced adult woman, and now "dirty old grandma". Sounds like we've found our new Wendee Lee haven't we?

HA! HIGHLY UNLIKELY!!!!!!

The otaku community were saying the exact same thing about Laura Bailey after DBZ & Kodocha was completed

Some might agree with you, but I doubt Luci's anywhere Wendel's Level.

Also dont get me wrong. I liked Shuffle. But from how the reviewers give them, and how people these days have shunned away the harem genere, except for harem series names Tenchi, Love Hina & Negima,i thought the series didn't do too well, and i belive i didn't do well.

IF it did, Shuffle Memories would have been licensed a LONG time ago.

this is the first I have heard of harem shows not selling well?

unless you mean like kimikiss which was a bit overpriced. though that is not an ecchi harem show and more of a love drama.

Luci Christian totally makes this show. Without her, I probably wouldn't have watched passed episode one. She's absolutely fantastic as the narrator. But the rest of the show tends to be passable at best.

I also didn't mind the backstory, though my sisters (who were less fond of it) were quick to tell me that it was because I teach classes on fairy tales and wrote one of my dissertations on the evolution of "Little Red Riding Hood" as a tale type. Laughing If you look at what are considered the three earliest versions - Le petit chaperon rouge, Little Red Cap, and Tale of the Grandmother (also called "The False Grandmother"), the whole rape allegory thing comes across pretty clearly. (Although that's a pretty crappy translation of the last one I linked to...) Anyway, what I'm getting at here, is that Zensunni is right and the level of research that went into this story was pretty impressive. Smile

Well alongs as it not over the top like what Christopher R Sabat did as the narrator for Negima?! , i can manage.

cause having picoloo's heavy heavy voice as an hyper active narrator dont mix one single bit. Then again it took me a while to get use to that style as the even more hyper active Major Armstrong, so having a hyper active narrator for the opposite sex may not be too bad alongs as it's not over the top that is.

I got the first episode for free on iTunes awhile ago and thought it was okay enough to watch more. I was happy with the dub, so I'll probably wait until Funi uploads the show dubbed before finishing it.
