After the whole ethical/unethical fansubbing thing, it got me wondering a bit

there are certain titles that have been licensed, and then are HEAVILY edited and chopped up to be shown on US Television (i.e shows on KidsWB and Fox and stuff like that, Pokemon, YuGiOh etc etc)

so basically they dont carry the charm of the original series at all.

what is your opinion if a fansubbing group decides to pick up a title like this and sub the original, unedited, not dumbed down version of it?

haha. I've always wanted to do that. Assuming the fangroup is voluntary, I think it's great.

Nope. Licensed = bad. If you want an "uncut original" version, buy the R2.

And then download the fansub if it lacks an English language track. You should at least buy one version of the anime before downloading the fansub. Actually I would recommend first buying the English language DVDs before downloading a fansub of it so the company will get the money, but we know you won't do it.

Actually, if something was hacked up beyond recognition AND there was no uncut version AND it was something that interested me, I think I'd download the fansubs. For example, if Cardcaptor Sakura hadn't been released in uncut format by Pioneer, there would be nothing to do but rely on the fansubs.

But the thing is, Pioneer DID release those DVDs. And given the state of the anime-licensing industry in North America, I'm pretty sure that anything cut up for TV would also get an uncut version, at the very least through sub-licensing. And even if there was no uncut version, that would probably mean the title had no interest for a more mature market and I wouldn't *want* to see an uncut version. So I don't see myself ever needing to get the fansubs of a hacked-up show; this is a highly theoretical question.

Pokemon is an example of an anime that has been edited and had some stuff cut, and never got released as uncut dvd's

also in japan they didn't even release all the seasons on dvd

myself Im one of the people that would rather get it on dvd instead of fansub, but usually lack the funding for import from japan (importing from the US is on my parents costs)
I actually enjoy pokemon in its original form more then the dub, and I would get it on dvd if it all were available and I know of more people that would rather have the original

Sure, Pokemon is cute, but I can't see why I would buy an uncut version. I don't think there's really much of a market for such a thing.

They Did the same thing with the first 2 sagas of Dragonball Z. Like when Piccolo riped Raditz heart out of his chest.

he didn't rip his heart out. he fired the beam into him and goku, and they kinda seperated and there was a whole pile of blood. No organs to be seen
