For me 2008 was my year of most anime seen. I counted 30 animes in that year out of the 145-155 released during that year.

The reason why is because late spring 2009 was when I gained interestin watching anime again. Basically it started with series I we watched a couple episodes each week to during the anime club I went to in college.

I have been watching anime on and off again since than. 2009 was also a great year for me too.

I'm not gonna just list off some anime, but I'm gonna say that a few of my favorites are from this year as well.

Name what year you've seen the most anime from, and explain your reasons behind it.

1998-99.

Our cable company released a new channel dedicated for mature animation. So in those years i watched everything that's ever been worth watching. Bebop, EVA, Saber Marionette, Akira, Birdy the mighty, Bubblegum crisis T2040, ALL kinds of american animation, Those who hunt elves, DBZ(other channel tho), All kind of movies and OVAS(segment called "Japanimotion"), Lain, Boogiebop Phantom, and prolly others.

Best Part?
All dubbed to spanish.

I watched most during 2006. Many good shows we're coming out at that moment.

To me 2006 was a big hit and miss year. It has many great series, but it also had maybe 3 bad series for every good one.

Don't let that 3 to 1 hypothetical ratio fool you. A LOT of anime was released in 2006, and also 2007 (06/07 were the only years in anime history where over 200 animes were made in 1 year!). So even though for every good series there were a lot of bad series, you also got to remember there was still a lot of good series that year.

From the year 2006 I've watched 48 titles - 1 that I dropped, so it's 47. 2008 isn't far behind with 46. No particular reason for this, most of the shows were garbage, but there is good availability. From the 90s I've generally seen 10-20, 80s at 3-7 and 70s at 0-3 per year.

2000-2001... Not sure which, but both were huge. I had several "Ranma 1/2 all day" days back then.

...Never again will I watch anime like I did back then.

Starting last year, I've been watching a lot, comparatively, to other recent years, with 3-4 shows a season (currently: C, Ano Hana, Kaiji, Suite Precure), plus maybe an extra 1-2 from the backlog, and several other shows that are being subbed very slowly (but these are really too infrequent to count).

It was in the second half of last year that I started back up. Prior to that (first half of 2010), I went a long time watching very little (mostly the infrequently subbed shows). The only current show I watched in 2009 was Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (which I didn't even start until near the end of the year), and in 2008, Kaiba. I started and dropped a few more, though.

The shows that kickstarted my return to anime were Tatami Galaxy, FMA, and Heartcatch. All of them were loads of fun, and got me excited about anime again.

Are you asking about the year in which I watched the most anime?
Or the year in which the anime was made?

For the first question I just do not know. I probably watched the most last year because I had more free time than usual, but I really do not keep track of what I am doing with my free time enough to be sure.

As for the year in which the anime was made, I really never pay any attention to that. Is there a reason why I should? That is not a sarcastic rhetorical question, I really am curious about why that would be important.

It was the second one. Well some people like keeping track of what year most of there anime is from. It can help them find another good series possibly?

This page is not 100% accurate, but it gives a good idea about anime released during those years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Anime_of_the_2000s

except for 2005 you see the relationship Im talking about where the peak of anime production was 2006-2007. The anime production gradually increased every year (Except 2005) then started decreasing rapidly in 2008 and after. This is because the big hurt to the anime industry.
This happened from many possibilities. Can be a combination of too many shows being produced, global recession lowering sales, studios going out of business, etc.
Honestly I like it that fewer shows are being made. Less crap being produced. (of course it will also mean fewer masterpieces too).

I don't keep track of it on a yearly basis, but it's somewhere between 2005-2010 and related to a combination of me being employed and the local cable company finally offering fairly affordable broadband. I'd have to actually do some research on that one. Confused

Have a great many people only read the topic title and not the OP post once again?

There are databases that do that automatically for you. Easy as pie.

Do after looking on that site, I see that between 2001-2007 I had seen over 20 of the shows listed.

The biggest was in 2006 with 35.

The biggest year in the '90s was 1995 with 20.

Of course I did grow up in the '80s so I probably have seen a lot of that stuff as well.

Looking at the lists and then comparing what I still own is a pretty interesting thing as well.

According to my research and memory it was 2009 with 138 titles. It's hard to sort out all the duplicate Japanese titles from the list I used though so it's probably only half that, so lets say 69.

2009 was a great year for me. Now when I look back, out of all the series I saw that were made in 2009, all of them were ones I liked.

the only series from that year I rated less than a 7 that I saw was Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu: Purezza. Nogazaka Haruka's Secret season 2 raped the first series entirely. I always describe Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu: Purezza as an example of someone being kept hostage and raped repeatedly.

This year(heck, this season). Most everything else I've watched has been heavily scattered through time and I've really only gotten into anime heavily recently.

I might say 2009, purely because it was my first full year with anime, so I was watching new shows, and sometimes a series every few weeks. Also seems to be the year I joined this site, so I was probably using the encyclopedia to chose shows.
