Darkstalkers is my favorite video game franchise because of the excellent varied character designs, and cool attacks.

The problems with E3 can best be summed up Nintendo revealing that fire emblem is being brought over to America by an interview instead of having it happen at the 3DS conference showing off all the attacks, characters, and plot. Also not showing P1000 at the conference was another error.

When I played Halo 2 the complete apathy I had for that game was the sign that I simply don't care about modern FPS. I don't even have interest in Mass Effect because I am just bored of shooters in general.

"We want to reinvent Lara Croft (for the 8th time) so we're rebooting it (for the 5th time). We realize people don't take her serious as a strong female role model, so we really want to change that (and this time we actually mean it) and make her a strong female. Now then. Here she is being raped by these guards and.."

Hooray.

Hollywood/Video Games have such a warped view of what a 'strong female' is.

I actually find myself liking DS JRPGs more than console ones these days. Console ones aren't bad, though. FFXIII-2 was great, Tales of Graces F was great.. but the DS gets a bunch more and reminds me more of the SNES golden days.

Btw Dead Space 3 has completely optional co-op and if you don't want an AI controlled partner then you can simply choose to play as Issac alone.

The demo of Last of Us was not scripted at all. There are multiple ways to tackle every sandbox section. Certain actions will trigger specific sequences and each action will elicit some reaction from the character in a different way in different circumstances.

Concerning the really weird romancing in Dragon's Dogma: I played as a female character and ended up with Selene. So she not only turned out to be gay, but a pedophile as well! Confused + Laughing

The Dragon's Dogma romance thing sounds like a pretty flawed system in many ways, but the results are pretty hilarious nonetheless. I can imagine the reactions of many gamers now. Muahahahaha.

Hasn't really paid much attention to E3 this year. Currently I don't have a lot of funds to spend on new games anyways (and I don't even own any of the latest consoles or a high end PC myself), so it's probably best I don't get too exited about anything yet.

I love the idea of a co-op game where one of the characters is insane, and you don't know who. That would be a ton of fun, and add an interesting level of tension to the game.

Also, Zac, you aren't alone in your love of Heavy Rain. I played it on my brother-in-law's PS3, and I really enjoyed it. Though there were some big plot holes, I still liked it. My brother-in-law and his wife also really liked it.

I'm really pumped for pikmin 3. I always really liked those games.

It's really unfortunate though that pikmin is nintendo's newest real franchise. pikmin 1 came out 11 years ago. all we get now is mario 2340932840 and zelda 132921434.

Regarding Akai Katana - all the complaints about Akai Katana can be said about any other CAVE game, so I really don't understand that.

Regarding repetitive and boring - you're suppose to play for score (these are ports of arcade titles) and also improve your skills to try and 1 credit the game. Also, each CAVE game has a unique scoring mechanism that one needs to learn to actually get a higher score next time. The scoring mechanism is more of the gimmick than the variations of a bombing (well those variations do help with scoring, so it's part of the gimmick, but it's not THE gimmick).

Bullet hell shmups are definitely a game of rote memorization. A lot of the bullets coming at you is pretty much just noise - only some of them are the ones you really need to pay attention to and avoid. You're suppose to learn all the patterns and learn when to use bombs to survive. The memorization of patterns lead back to my previous point of playing for score.

I particularly didn't like Akai Katana too much, but for a silly reason. It's a horizontal shooter instead of the typical vertical style. I am pretty terrible at the bullet hell shmups, but I enjoy the heck out of playing them.

I want to get hyped for a new Fire Emblem but...eh. Radiant Dawn sucked majorly. Shadow Dragon wasn't terrible but it just felt so dumbed down. (To be fair, it was a remake of one of the earlier games but still...) Now they're talking about co-op for the new one? Seriously?

I truly don't get the hate for Luigi's Mansion. That is a great game. It has wonderful art design and a great atmosphere. The gameplay is fun too. It's as much a puzzle game as an action game.

I still maintain that the first Gears was one of the best games of the generation. It had really tight, tactical gameplay. It was ridiculously over the top but it totally worked because they didn't ever take themselves to seriously. Then the second one basically took all that and threw it right out the window. The third was...marginally better I guess? I don't know. I was gonna skip Gears 4. That premise actually does sound cool though. I'll probably pick it up for cheap.

Must we be so cynical? I agree that Watch Dogs certainly might amount to nothing. It might also turn into something really cool though. You're right that at this point we're really just speculating on what might be in the game but isn't that true of literally every game at this stage of production? So why isn't a game that at least shows potential a good thing? Would you rather see another boring, generic FPS that doesn't even show potential instead?

Yup. Vanguard pretty much makes the latter ME's gameplay go from okay to awesome.

You know, I actually kinda did like Heavy Rain in a lot of ways. It was a cool concept and I liked the gameplay. However, the story was shiiiiiiiiiiiit. It was just horribly written, contrived, garbage. It completely fell apart toward the end.

GTA: Pioneers in the realm of dongs.

Of course, the obvious question with the South Park game is: "Does the gameplay hold up?" I'm sure it'll be funny and satirical etc. That's all gonna wear thin real quick though if the gameplay is boring.

The Wii U looks unbelievably awful. The controller is stupid. I think it'll actually make games worse. The first party support is crap so far. The third party support is pointless at this stage. It's all just crappier re-releases of stuff I've already got on PS3/360. Plus, it's gonna be completely outdated a year after release when PS4 or whatever comes out.

Man...what happened to Suda 51? Killer 7 was great and now he seems like he's just determined to make goofy, over the top send ups. It's disappointing.

To me though, I really don't want to see Japanese developers copy western developers. There are more than enough WRPGs coming out. I can easily get my fill of them without turning to Japan. Instead, I want to see them find a way to make better, fresher, JRPGs while still retaining the uniqueness of JRPGs.

Yeah yeah. The west is awful and horrible and TitanXL, patron saint of weeaboo, won't rest until everyone knows it. Shouldn't you be getting back to your tentacle rape porn or something? Rolling Eyes

This always strikes me as a rather tenuous point. There have only actually been five 3D Zelda games. (And I definitely think the 3D Zelda games are pretty different from the old 2D ones). Hence, the franchise is hardly any more redundant that half the franchises out there.

On the DD facebook group I'm on, one guy was upset because he was giving the weapon's smith guy gifts just to keep getting discounts and ended up in gay relationship with him. Twisted Evil

It's pretty much like Russian Roulette. Laughing Currently I'm just "getting to know" several girl characters at the same time and shall see what happens...

Awesome show, guys! Yeah I have to agree there was nothing aside from Beyond or The Last of Us that even remotely applied to me. Epically Watch_Dogs which I was supppppper "Eh...whatever". I think I will just always be disappointed in video games form now on because I have witnessed "Mohawk and Headphone Jack" and nothing will ever be the same.

Man this is probably one of my favourite shows on the ANNcast, its really frustrating to not be able to listen to it!

On behalf of all...four of us (maybe) in Singapore who listen to the show, i hope something can be done so we could tune in again.

Sad all the hate on Luigi's Mansion. Me and my sister thought that game was great fun.

Didn't he say that he doesn't like CAVE shooters in general?

I agree that E3 left me pretty underwhelmed in general. I guess its more of a show floor than an announcement venue nowadays.

He mentioned CAVE has made decent shooters. He recommended Guwange and said that ESPGaluda is probably their best series.

How can you say a game is repetitive when pretty much their whole catalog of can be considered repetitive? That's what threw me off, unless it was one of those feelings that can't be explained, which is fine.

Rapey? Are they trying to pull a Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?

My $.02: lots of people, East and West, have a warped sense of what a "strong female" is, let alone a regular female. No one's got a monopoly on that nonsense.
