I was looking at the ratings graph for Final Fantasy VII AC, and I noticed initially that "gee, this is rated rather highly, that's nice." and then I looked at the bottom of the graph. There are 45 "Worst ever" votes. Now, normally, this wouldn't bother me, except it looks as if there is a vote for every single combination of languages/subs that ANN offers. This doesn't seem right. I get the distinct feeling that sombody is trying to fudge the data here.

Well, the length of the bar indicates that it probably isn't skewing the data. I wonder if it's an error and not someone trying to skew the data. This thread would probably do better in the Encyclopedia section. And to make it easier on the people who can change things, you should link to the title in question.

The error (or jerk loser, although I still find that unlikely) has seemed to affect Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid as well. anime#4449

Oh, its someone trying to skew the ratings all right. But our algorhythm won't be affected by things like that.

While the votes show in terms of numbers, they don't affect the bar, nor do they affect the anime's ranking.

Oh, and a question: What if you... for example... give a dub "Weak" and a sub "Good." Which one would it count? The highest (Good in this case), lowest (the Weak), or the average between them?

Only the highest counts. It's assumed the highest is the "normal rating" and the lower ratings are due to bad dubbing or editing, etc.

Oh, and a bit of a side-note, but... Does anyone notice that the first Lupin show has votes for a dub? I'm sure several have by now; that was another rhetorical. I think those were intended for Lupin Part 2, the Lupin that Adult Swim aired.

That kind of thing happens a lot. There were a lot of people who had supposedly seen and voted for Ah! My Goddess the TV series before it even aired. Those votes should have been for the OVA. It's probably really hard to figure out who exactly is voting for the wrong show though, so not much can be done about it.
