Hi,
I am looking for a way to view anime by genre on the site (scifi, etc ... )
(searching the site but can't find).
I can see that each anime has a genre in its file, but I want a list of anime sorted by genre.

Please could you direct me ?
Many thanks

The Encyclopedia is not currently searchable by genre, but it's on the list of things to add. If you have any other suggestions, there's a sticky suggestions thread in the Encyclopedia forum.

Well if you want some recommendations you could always tell us what kind of anime you're looking for. I'm sure people here wouldn't mind giving some good ideas. (but of course they have to explain why because the rules do state no listing and make sure that it's discussable material).

Try a ANN google search. It's not much use but at least it's useable. The more specific you are the more useful it will be.

For example:
Adventure+Comedy+Shounen+Manga or Sports+Drama+Shoujo+TV

Like I said, it isn't great but it's still useable.

Unforunately no "Advanced Search" here, I would love to see a Genre/Age Rating/User Rating advanced search options... for example, how great would be to do something like "All mature shows rated by 100+ members with 8 or higher average rating".

I've posted in the "Suggestions" about this, and this sort of feature would be VERY easy to add, depending how data model is setup, I'm surpised they never added it. Question

mmm I understand.
Ok, I explain:
Too many times I rented or bought 'kid' anime, thinking I was getting some good stuffs but it was very disappointed.
I like rather mature stuffs (and this doesn't mean adult please).
I really enjoyed Samurai Champloo, Ghost in the Shell series, Black Jack, Elfen Lied ...
that's the one on the top of my list.

From a genre sorting feature, I was hoping to be able to browse similar shows, you know just like the Amazon feature 'people who bought this also bought that'.
BTW I am going to check on Amazon ( ROFL suggested something to myself Smile )

Still, I am taking any suggestion to similar shows I listed above.
Many thanks

Do you want just shows or can movies be included? Because I know alot of mature movies (not porn maybe a few images here or there).

Show wise since, you like samurai champloo you'd most likely like Cowboy Bebop. Which is set in a future world about bounty hunters. The main character of the show has a past to him that starts catching up to him that he is going to have to face and the other characters in the show all have to face there past or problems coming in the future and during all this they look for bounties to collect on. Graphics are beautiful and nice and clean. The dubbing is nothing below excellent, all the voices align to the actors correctly and each voice seems to fit the part they play. And it has a certain feel that Samurai Champloo gives off too. Even has the same voice actor for the main character of cowboy bebop and from samurai champloo. I'm sure other people will agree (some small percent may disagree) that if you like Samurai Champloo then you'd more then likely love cowboy bebop.

i fully agree.. i've seen only very few of Cowboy Bebop, but i immediately decided to watch it whole.. about the dub, it realy is great.. (i prefer subs, but this dubing is realy good, greetings to the "dub team").. i can only recommend it

///////

btw.. i'd realy appreciate such a feature at ANN too ...
also the earlier mentioned searching by age rating, or the number of user ratings...

Hmm... Well if you liked the GitS series then I'm sure you'd like the movies. Keep in mind they don't go together (the alternate universe thing), so don't let that confuse you.

I'm going to second the suggestion made for Cowboy Bebop. If you like that, go ahead and watch the movie. It was made after the series (but takes place between ep. 22 and 23) so the animation is a lot cleaner and (because it was a movie) they had a bigger budget so the action scenes very nice Very Happy!

Wolf's Rain is also an excellent title. The dub and the sub are both equally great. The soundtrack is by Yoko Kanno Cool who does CB's soundtrack. A warning though, don't waste your money on Volume 4 Recollections, it's basically a bunch of recap episodes.

Another show you should check out is Last Exile. The blend between CG and animation makes for a very pretty show. Some of the scenes just blew me away. Again both the dub and the sub are excellent.

A mature movie I suggest watching would be Jin-Roh. Ever heard the story of Little Red Riding Hood? Well you'll never think of it the same again because, "only in the stories humans tell, do the hunters kill the wolf." It set in an alternate history of Japan were a totalitarian government is in place. It's sad, but it's good.

I haven't seen it but I've heard Elfen Lied is pretty gory, so I'd have to suggest the Samurai X OAV's. I have no idea if they are related in any way, but SX is definitely mature. The sound tracks are particularly good.

My last suggestion would be Berserk. Every time the main character Guts swings his sword, someone dies. Even though that’s just awesome, it’s not what makes the story so great. It's about fate, destiny, love, ambition, desire, and ruin. It’s one of my favorites, I highly recommend it.

Hope that helps Anime smile.
