Heh, I'm probably one of the few who actually likes Kenshin's english translation, that I am.

Although I don't love the dub of Naruto (it is pretty good though), I'm otherwise really impressed with Viz's treatment of the script. The "Beleive it" thing is the best example of that. They're really catering to the fans, keeping everything pretty much exactly the same as the Japanese dub.

I normally despise smilies, but that one is absolutely amazing.

It's funny the first time you see it. After a while though, it becomes evident for what it is: a way to trivialise what someone has said, in order to avoid having to take it seriously.

It's a bad habit.

Regarding the Chrno/Chrono issue: I've contacted the translator for R3 release. Hopefully we'll get an answer soon.

By the way, could you let us share your info source, Zac?
I wouldn't expect s/he has a name like D__p T____t.

okay... so isn't that like a blatant way of saying the Inuyasha prize is a waste of time?

It's never a waste of time.... Even if the series sucks, there is always..... Ebay.

Also, this is the first time I thought what won Tsukihime was lame. Of course, he must have really gotten some lame responses on that.

All the best,

Well, according to Ain't It Cool News

Quote:
The secret history of Daisuke Moriyama's Chrono Crusade, revealed why the title was originally spelled "Chrno Crusade". The title went to the logo designer with the spelling mistake, then the logo went to the printer without the error being caught. By the time it was caught, it was too late and the first volume had already been printed.

Also, mispellings of English words are not uncommon in anime Very Happy.

http://www.lupinthethird.net points out the different spellings of Cagliostro in Hayao Miyazaki's Castle of Cagliostro:

spelled right

spelled wrong

spelled wrong

So, you see, even the great Miyazaki overlooks such things Rolling Eyes .

Forget translators. I spoke with Saisuke Moriyama about it at Anime Boston 2005.

Chrno was a typo, not a deliberate decision. Moriyama wanted them to fix it but it ended up being printed with the mistake, and at that point it was too late to fix so they maintained the name with future issues...

Greg Ayres said himself in a panel about Chrono Crusade at Anime Iowa that the only reason it was spelled "Chrno" in the Japanese release is because of the Chrono Trigger property and that the name Chrono (anything) was licensed. They apparently didn't have this problem in America as it is only trademarked or copywrited in Japan, so they went with Chrono. I don't have a transcription of the panel, but that's what he said and who better to rely on than the voice of Chrono/Chrno.

Well, the first link has enough information to warrant an edit on either Mr. Answerman or the Encyclopedia. I wonder which one is right?

The information in the encyclopedia has been corrected. The person who submitted it sourced a generally very reliable website, but in this case they were wrong.

I believe the whole relation to the games is speculation (false speculation at that).

The creator of the property. See my previous post.

That being said, Ayres is a HUGE fan of the show/manga. But he's still a fan just like everyone else here. He met Moriyama at Anime Boston 2005 (for the first time iirc), I wonder if the above panel was before or after that.

Anyways, I find it very unreasonable to think this was a trademark issue. Chrono Crusade is a very different name from Chrono Trigger, trademarks generally apply to full names, and only across a specific medium.

I doubt Japanese trademark law would apply in the way that has been suggested here.

Copyright infringement? Doesn't animation companies accept Comiket and other doujinshi conventions or fan made games (Melty Blood, EFZ) that helps promote the source anime material?

At times they have.

Generally they simply leave it alone. Why, well Japanese trademark law protects intellectual property even when someone else uses it without permission. In the US if someone uses a trademarked item without permission and they are not challenged the trademark owner can actually loose the trademark.

Now, I haven't managed to find any actual articles from back then, so this is relying on (possibly faulty) memory, but I seem to recall that when the series was first announced in Japan, it was "Chrono"

Nope, you're wrong. It was originally Chrno, all the way.

Yeah, to be honest, it was slim pickings. It was a tough picture to caption, and I just didn't get a lot of great ones.

The one I chose made me laugh a little so I went with that one, but in the future I'm going to try and pick screencaps that are a little easier to riff on.

ABout the flyer thing, I seen many flyer before and they use image of 2Pac (Dead Rapper) or Charmane Star (Asian Pornostar) as well as many other famous celebrities to promote their clubs. Usually these celeb will be appearing at the club, but other times they just use it to promote the style of the club.
