I never considered Grave of the Fireflies a.. horror movie...

i tried to force one of my friends to watch it .. but she refused because she saw it under the horror category and thought it would be something like the ring or similar...

it would be like a "horror of war" type of thing.. but not what i would consider in the "horror" genre

Fear in maybe what will become of the world or how it is. Is the only way an anime has scared me. Boogie Pop Phantom, Lain, are they only ones that I've watched that have that affect. Berserks ending song, that one kinda gets to me.

Reason why "horror" doesn't scare me is because I've spent a good chunk of my life RL around Shamans, medince people (choose your term) etc. I know of one who makes his living literally cursing people to death (up on murder charges three times, couldn't prove a thing). I also know some genuinely wise and good people.

I guess when I see a lot of horror, it's so over the top I react to the same way someone who knows something about karate reacts to wire fuu movies. I enjoy them and but don't take them seriously.

Saikano, Grave of the Fireflies remind of RL contemplation of just how screwed up this world is and when I do that I paralize my self with my fears for the future sometimes for days at a time. That's why I fear to watch these shows.

All the Best,

Nani?

Boogiepop Phantom is definitely good for some chills.

Boogiepop Phantom is tame. There are serious no anime that will scare you, the only thing some will make you do is cringe at the gore and blood which wouldn't leave you with a lasting effect of "being scared".

Nani, what part of the world do you live in? What you mentioned sounds similar to Voodoo to me. I have met a few people who practiced voodoo, that is a very strange practice.

Horror anime on the whole seems to be more focused on disgusting you then subtly scaring you.

Yeh i agree with that actually. the best horror animes arent actaully classed as horror. the final fantasy games actaully manage it quite well in parts, giving you a wird feeling in the pit of your stomach. and Akira, when tesuos havin the hallucinations, reelly creeped me out

The point of this thread was what was scary not best horror.

As for where I live: I have lived most of my life in the United States but I have worked on Indian Reservations and have a tendancy to get along well with "traditionalists" (though a some of those people dislike whites). Learning the "right attitude" you might say has taught me how to get along with "mystics" (other then the cheesy new agers, some wiccan types). Quite frankly, I find them mostly to be really good people.

All the best,

Nani?

Pokemon. Absolutely terrifying. Twisted Evil

Seriously though, I have yet to see an anime that really scared me. Perfect Blue has some scary moments and the overall surreal feeling is similar to some of Dario Argento's liveaction horror-movies (Suspiria, Tenebre etc.), but I don't know if it qualify as horror. Probably more of a thriller. It's still a good anime though.

Oh, I agree that it's not really that scary and that there aren't really any titles out there that are, but it still did have its creepy moments. I'd say it was more of a mind-screw creepy, though.

On a side-note...what the heck happened to my original post?

I haven't watched all of Shadow Star: Narutaru yet, but I think a lot of people thought that one was pretty scary.

The last few episodes made Narutaru the most disturbing anime I've ever seen.

I'd say Paranoia Agent, Perfect Blue, and Akira are scariest.

And Starwind, whats with the Family Guy and American Dad worship? You're down on American cartoons but up on American Dad? I personally think American Dad is one of the worst cartoons on TV now, more annoying than much of the stuff Nickelodeon puts on, even. Mcfarlane bowers just make me crazy.

In other words, to each his own, yo.

Oh, and for anyone who cares' information, I like Invader ZIM, so I don't think Nickelodeon is completely worthless.

For one thing I don't think akira was scary at all. What part of the movie scared you?
Perfect blue I can understand it does have a feeling that yes this could be real and what is going on kind of feeling that can make some people frightened.
Paranoia agent to me wasn't scarey at all just confusing but a good anime at that because it leaves much to think about at the end. This to I wonder what scared you? Are you at a young age?And next time please post details on why you think they are the scariest.

Next, what's wrong with American Dad. I thought the beginning episodes were a little boring but when you keep watching it, it gets funnier. Because in a way it's just like Family guy except the dad has some brains to him but still makes stupid decisions and I like how he's angry with communists and talks about democracy. Funniest episodes was him (if you are of young age DON'T read the spoiler)spoiler[masterbating]. Normally, I don't stick up for starwind but I think this issue I'm going to have to.
