ATTACK OF THE AMERICAN CARTOONS
In a world where there is no anime, 3 children must fight to stop the invasion of the insipid American animation. Excluding shows such as Family Guy and American Dad, these brave young warriors must cleanse the planet of the watered-down kiddie crap that American animators continues to produce. The trio will show the world that when it comes to animation, the Japanese rule over all.
Coming soon from ADV FILMS.

No, seriously, try something like Vampire Hunter D, Kakurenbo (which aired last night), Wicked City, Twilight of the Dark Master, Perfect Blue... there's a whole bunch. Just don't go to Blockbuster expecting to find anything other than edited VHS tapes of Dragonball Z and Sailor Moon and DVDs of 1 Lupin movie and Gundam Wing episodes that everyone has seen on TV and have been on the New Releases shelf for years.

It's actually more of a shounen. But, Elfen Lied is a really good choice for horror anime. If you watch the ADV preview, almost every other scene has a 10-sec. entire-screen censor (and even in the opening). (Check it out in the encyclopedia!)

Two can play at that game:
ATTACK OF THE JAPANESE CARTOONS
In a world where there is no American animation, 3 children must fight to stop the invasion of the insipid Japanese animation. Excluding shows such as Samurai Champloo and Gundam SEED, these brave young warriors must cleanse the planet of the cliched, fanservice-y shit that Japanese animators continue to produce. The trio will show the world that when it comes to animation, Bob Clampett rules over all.
Coming soon from John Krisfalucci.

Uhm...... NONE. Anime and horror don´t really go together. Most previously mentioned titles are just gory, Elfen Lied, Bio Hunter, Blood Reign, Vampire Hunter D, and pretty much any title isnt scary. If you want gore, these titles will do but if you want horror, you are out of luck. I've been thinking about it recently and I don´t think anything is really scary anymore. I can´t even think of scary live action movies and classics like Chucky and The Exorcist don´t really cut it anymore.

Animation can't really translate horror very well. In order to feel a sense of horror, you need to feel that there is a slight 0.0000000009% possibility that this can happen to you. When something appears animated, all sense of reality is thrown out the window and all possibility of an actual feeling of horror is lost in the translation.

Elfen Lied is primarily graphic horror, with an odd mix of cute-ness and brutal violence, gore, and prolonged nudity. Definitely a mature title and probably not for the weak stomached. However, it''s balanced out well with an excellent storyline, and a good cast of characters.
...And also what exactly was wrong with my post to incur deletion? I provided reasons for my recomendations. This micro-moding is starting to get annoying.

I would say that Vampire Princess Miyu was the only "scary" anime I've seen that managed to freak me out, even if it was just a little. Horror anime on the whole seems to be more focused on disgusting you then subtly scaring you.

Demon city shinjuku. But I was very young when I watched this. Has alot of gore and demons in it that I guees gave me the chills. Plus, there's a sence of mystery towards it which gives it an erie feel. But I would say this one hardly scared me even at my age but it would of been the scariest I'd ever seen. But I love the story to it...just too short.

I actually have to say parts of Ghost in the Shell: Innocence, specifically when they're walking through that carnival and the children are holigrams. That just seemed particularly....... unholy, corrupt, a twisting of how the world should be. What was frightening was that it was very close to how it is starting to become.

I say watch hellsing, its not much of the horror genre, but it would be a really cool show to watch on halloween. So I guess Hellsing has to be the scariest anime I've ever seen, i didn't find Elfen Lied as scary as it was disturbing, i can't watch it again (for a 5th time ^^).
Chuck was scary .

I'm actually scared to watch Saikano or Grave of the Fireflies. I'm afaid I'll end up depressed/suicidal etc.
Now Ghosts or Vampires or curses really don't scare me, not because I don't believe in ghosts but because I can handle those types of things. I take them to just be well,.... normal (expect for the vampires which I find laughable).
All the Best,
Nani?
