Wow....didn't think I would be the first to talk about it...

1) I'm surprised this has gotten every single possible adaptation EXCEPT anime...

2) It's a cute little story, although I think I have to get back to reading it so I can finish it.

I cannot see why this would be adapted into anything. This was one of the blandest manga I've ever read. It wasn't terrible or anything but it also wasn't particularly very good either.

Expect to have everyone changed to adults so it doesn't make people feel uncomfortable. (They seriously did that with the TV series if I'm not mistaken)

And I actually find AB to be a lot better than Watase's big cash cow. Granted my opinions are only based on watching the anime having only glanced at the manga, but I hated Fushigi Yugi. Seriously, that became a steaming pile as it kept going.

They did make the main character an office lady as opposed to a high schooler in the TV show.

They should not change a thing because it would go against creator's intent, and the audience would not feel the full force of that emotional impact that it elicits. Laughing

And what with the stage plays lately? Is the industry turning into a Disney on Broadway?

I don't know this just seems....dumb to me. Who would want to make a stage play based on Absolute Boyfriend? It'd be like someone in the states making a stage play based on Gossip Girl or 90210 Rolling Eyes I mean I enjoyed the manga for what it was I just can't see this translating to the stage in any way that someone could take seriously.

To be fair that could be said of the movie Legally Blonde, or Spider-Man but have a look at what happened there. (Actually I've seen Legally Blonde on stage and it's pretty good, heard mixed reviews about the Spidey one though).

I think stage play adaptations are a thing in Japan that is quite common. Is this a straight play? Or a musical? Because I know a fair few anime musical, the famous Sera Myu (Sailor Moon musicals) and the Bleach and Rose of Versailles musicals. Not to forget from the world of games, the Phoenix Wright musical - which is a Takarazuka Revue (as is RoV) and thus all female cast.

I could actually see how Legaly Blonde would make a pretty good stage play, Spider-Man on the other hand sounds like a train wreck of an idea and it doesn't surprise me that it got mixed reviews. Oh well, different strokes for different folks and all that....

They'll also be doing this with the K-drama version... if it ever comes out. That was supposedly going to air this spring and now we're well-into the spring dramas and no sight of it. I'm hoping for this summer.

I thought the J-drama was okay overall but the heroine was rather annoying, which neutered the romance angle for me. I'm hoping Kim Ha Neul in the K-drama version (supposedly opposite Big Bang's TOP) plays a more relatable heroine. That is, if it comes to fruition.
