I've never come across an anime produced like this one before.
At the moment there are two entries: Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (movie; 13765) Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (TV; 13776) From everything I've read, the movies and the TV series have the same content. Movie 1 is episodes 1 & 2, and then these episodes will be sold on Blu-ray on May 25. Movie 2 will be episodes 3-6 and will also be sold on Blu-ray after that. Apparently when the 26 episodes are completed the series will then air on TV, although episode 1 has already been aired on TV as a special. So A) I don't really know if this series should have two entries, and B) I don't really know if it should be categorized as movies, OVAs, or a TV series, since it is in a sense of all of these things. A) If the contents are all the same then it should not. Speaking of which, I'm considering removing all those "ani-manga" entries, as they are simply screencaps printed on paper. However, while I could fix news links and releases with little problem, connections of MyAnime/MyManga and Collections are still pain in the neck. 
B) Agreed, it sure has a weird method of distribution, but there were a few previous example. Yamato 2199 is indeed very much like those OVA in the 1980s, using theater screenings as a way of promoting the series. However the final decision goes to Dan. |

I've talked about it with some hardcore Yamato fans on another forum and they vehemently disagree with me about it being an OVA series.
For one thing, OVAs are usually released on episode at a time and there will be two episodes on the first Blu-ray and four on the subsequent one, with 3 or 4 eps per disc following. So I suppose it is a TV series, as that seems to be the format it was designed for. And I didn't even know ani-manga was even listed here; I don't think I've ever run across any. |

"Number of episodes per disc" is a rather weak reasoning. While I do agree that most OVA are one episode per tape/disc, it shouldn't be the determinant criteria.

I was tempted to say that animanga should get listed as releases only and not as actual titles, however they do have staff attached like translators.

Same applies to fanbooks, and fanbooks definitely require more manpower to produce (ani-manga requires minimal workforce). We also have manga- or anime-adapted novels that have their own writers (often illustrated by the original creator though). |
