I've noticed that english dubs haven't been overly all amazing in america but I'm wondering if there are any english dubs of anime you thought were just as good or maybe better than the Japanese ones. And if you could mention a specific Character that you thought was really well done in english than please do speak.

For me English dubs i've enjoyed more than Japanese dubs would be the following anime:

Cowboy Bebop: Knockin On Heaven's Door Movie - I thought the english voice actors portrayed the characters to their fullest. But the one VA I liked the most was the one who did Spike. He just portrayed Spike to me perfectly. He made Spike sound cool, at ease and serious which made me enjoy the film even more. I like the Japanese VA for Spike but I found the english one to be more enjoyable.

InuYasha TV series and Movies - The voice actors for Inuyasha in my mind did a better job than the ones in the original Japanese dub. Kagome sounded less annoying in english than in Japanese and InuYasha was far more hilarious to listen to in english. Miroku was the character I thought was the most well done because he sounds more perverted in english than in Japanese. His VA protrayed both his serious and lecherous side perfectly for me to enjoy the series more.

Later on there'll be more to come.

Oh and if english is your second language and you've listened to it in your own language then you can include that too.

The only English dub I can think of that is as good as the Japanese dub is R.O.D. the TV. Some people dislike the British accent on Yomiko (they think it's too fake or that she didn't have one originally), but I think it works well. All of the voices fit the characters very well, but I'm particularly fond of Rachel Hirshfield as Anita. I felt that she did an excellent job of portraying Anita and her voice fit perfectly.

The only problem I had with the dub was changing a line in the first episode. In Japanese, Michelle told Nenene that her favorite author was Hemmingway, but in English she says that her favorite series is Harry Potter.

In another episode, a man says "videos" instead of "porn videos" but the way he says it gets the point across.

Outside of these problems, I thought it had an excellent English dub.

I've always favorable to the Trigun dub. Vash's voice was aboslutely perfect for his character, much better than the Japanese voice. And I agree that Bebop's dub is really, really solid, one of the best in the business. But I completely disagree with the Inu Yasha comment - ugh. Fullmetal Alchemist's dub is excellent, especially in terms of sound quality. Hmm...I also have to mention Magic Knight Rayearth dub. I thought this was a good dub with excellent choices for the voices. Furthermore, this is the only dub I've ever witnessed in which they dubbed over the opening theme and it actually sounded good.

(edit) Seconded, the R.O.D. dubwork was good.

I'll agree with this. Another problem was that the sub script was just really bland. Whatever liberties they took with the dub script worked.

For some reason G-Gundam seems way more Hot-Blooded in English. Even when you filter out the selective censorship.

I heard that Watanabe prefers the dub to the sub . So purists can't complain about how the script changes "ruined what the creator intended" in the bebop dub.

I have a feeling I'm going to be torn apart for voicing this, but I adore the Cromartie High School dub. I've watched the series from beginning to end in both languages, and normally I'm a person who will prefer subs 99% of the time, but this time the English dub just made me roll on the floor with laughter. So I prefer to watch it that way. The original is great, too, of course, but I just find it funnier in English.

Hmm.. I find X:TV and Gundam Wing to be on par if not better than their Japanese counterparts. Paranoia Agent also has an excellent dub.

I also second CB as well. I may not like the show as much as others do, but the voice casting was fabulous.

I love the dubs for Here is Greenwood and Macross Plus. Oh, and the original Mobile Suit Gundam dub wasn't bad either.

I would say Paranoia Agent. This is mostly because all the voices seem to match up with the characters perfectly.

Another one I would say would be BlueSubmarine 6 would be equal with the Japan version. I say this because I thought the dubbing was better in english then the Japanese version. But thought they could of got better voice actors, specially for the girl (Please for give me I forgotten her name).

I definitely third the ROD TV dub; not that the Japanese audio was bad, but I enjoyed the English more. Another, more obscure series is Sherlock Hound, AKA "Famous Detective Holmes." Since it's based on Sherlock Holmes stories, it works far better in English. (On the "British accents are cool" rule, I nominate Emma as a future choice here, assuming they can do it authentically.) The Texhnolyze dub is quite good, though I'm not sure if I can say it's better. Fruits Basket also runs pretty close; while some characters may sound brash and/or annoying, I think they were meant to be that way (Ayama and Ritsu).

I've also heard that the Hellsing dub was better than the original, but again, I haven't watched enough of the dub to compare.

Some people are going to rape me for this one.

I like the dub for Neon Genesis Evangelion better than the Japanese verson. Why? I can't stand Asuka and Dr. Akagi's voices in the Japanese.

The dub for Blue Sub 6 was very good. Kino's voice was a bit annoying, but good nonetheless. However, we won't be hearing any more from Coastal Carolina Studios since they were shut down recently due to not getting any more work.

Well I agree with most people that R.O.D The TV eng dub is pretty good. Very Happy I also think that Samurai Champloo eng dub is better than the Japanese-since the voices each suits the character great Razz Fullmetal Alchemist has also a great eng dub and I've heard plenty of Vic Mignogna's voice work and he suits well for Ed Elric. Last but not least Chrono Crusade did a great work on the eng dub. I enjoyed this anime in particualar and Hilary Haag's voice is perfect for Rosette. She always cracks me up on all the funny scenes. I think that Greg Ayres did a fantastic job for Chrono. That's all for now!
