Ohmigosh! Here comes Rita! My sister might be evacuating to my house but I'm a mere 150 Miles from the coast. My county is on the edge of the hurricane watch.
I told my sister that she should box and plastic wrap all the manga just in case the roof gets blown off. I sure hope she does. It would be even better if she brought it up here (and herself too!) because then we could spend hours reading it. That would help keep the peace during the day while 7 adults and 4 kids shove into my 3 bedroom house. |

yes... i do agree she kinda has a problem  I'd want to get me, my pets, and my dad out before my manga if there was a hurricane. But then again, thats just me...

Hell no, first thing I save is my hard drive. I have everything there: phone numbers, adresses, CV, applications, a huge percent of my life is on my hard drive :S
But I think I would start worrying about my manga sooner or later if faced with such a problem like a huricanne. But they would surely not be first

I know I would definitely want to pack my collection up and take it. First of all, anime and manga and other merchandise are all really expensive. And...it's kind of like family. Precious family. I would feel so bad even losing a stuffed animal (all my tigers and anime plushies) because they have feelings, too. (Okay, that makes it sound really sad.) Let's just say I can relate.

Well, when we evacuted for Katrina, I packed a lot of clothes, got what little transportable food together I could find, got the laptop, made sure we had the cat stuff together to be packed and I was ready to go. However, my parents and brother weren't nearly as ready... I did have a headstart on them since I was awake before any of them since I'd just gotten home from my night shift.
So while they were packing, getting dressed, etc. I moved all my anime/manga/collectibles off the bottom bookshelves I had them on. Of course I thought about them. All that stuff is my valuables. Sure it sounds kinda lame to say that, but that's my opinion. Besides, I don't think it's so different than other personal things people bring if they can during evacutions. If it was just me, I probably would have brought it all with me since it would have easily fit into the car then. Heh, dad said I could bring it with me... but uh... obviously he doesn't know how much space my small collection takes up.

I'll pray for your sister is save.
If I had to evacuate, I would try to take manga collection with me, if I had the room and time to bring them. I would make sure that my love ones and I werre save frist, then my manga. It's lame, and my family would hate it, but besides my family, pets, clothes,food, water, irreplaceable pictuers and documents,ect... my manga would be next in line. Since Houston got lucky, both my sister's house and my parent's house were perfectly fine. Both electricity and phone were still on and my sister's bay window wasn't destroyed. I only live a 100 miles from Houston so they left quickly and got home almost instantly.
Sister didn't pack the manga with her to my house.  But I'm glad it wasn't touched.
As the three car caravan left to go home, I shouted out, "See y'all again in two weeks!" There's already another storm brewing in the area.

I've often wondered what I'd do if there was a fire in my house and three things always spring to mind: 1: check that I can get out 2: If I can get out, grab my laptop and save it. 3: If there is still time, chuck all my manga into a bag and then peg it out of the house. |
