Wouldn't it be convenient to have normal sized undies vending machines installed in bar bathrooms, you know, just in case...

Shit like this makes me sad.
Why did they go the evangelion route, AKA "Make an important, actually well-written story, and then lose all artistsic integrity by pimping it out for merch money"?
I know Urobochi needs to pay for that Lambo he bought from Madoka money, but still.

Its a business first and foremost. Plus its not like Madoka wasn't made for the otaku from the start. It was the 2nd most anticipated anime by otaku even before the season began, only after Infinite Stratos. Shaft did all kinds of promotions in all of the Otaku magazines with posters, figurines and all kinds of events for otaku.
It just happened to be an anime that caught on with the non otaku as well.

As i understand it, the companies that make anime (Shaft, Gainax/khara, etc) don't have much say in the merchandise side of things, that's up to the merchandising companies. (To quote Anno when asked about Eva and merchandise regarding Gainax, it's "business as usual".)

They still have to approve it and they see a cut of the profits from the sales.

Well, yeah. This was edited into my previous post, but to at least quote Anno when asked about Eva and merchandise regarding Gainax, it's "business as usual".
Separately selling doll panties from the doll is weird, though. >_>

Well, if you already own a doll it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to buy another just because you want a new set of undergarments. Part of the fun of doll ownership is being able to change up their outfits, including the parts that aren't normally visible.
