Somehow this seems a little off to me. I didn't think Rayquaza was that popular....

It seems to me that the opposite, Rayquaza was one of the most coolest, most bad-ass dragon types during the earlier years of pokemon.

Rayquaza, cool, but I'm suprised suicune wasn't higher.

Fushigibana proves yet again Grass starters are always the worst/least popular.
Or maybe people just voted for Rayquaza so they could get a free Level 100 one in the game. |

What this article doesn't mention is that the winning Rayquaza, which will be distributed via Pokemon Center in Japan, will bear one of the two signature moves of another fellow legendary, Victini: V-Create. (Of all things, I know, but who can complain when this nearly revolutionizes the already badass Rayquaza with the mere addition of one move?)

Wished Ho-oh was a little more higher up, but other than that, its an okay list.

yeah, i expected rayquaza or pikachu to win. come on now. who doesn't like dragons? out of all the legendary dragon-types, rayquaza is the coolest IMO. there is a reason that it became a boss in Super Smash Bros.
Im just surprised blastoise is so low and some of the newer gen pokes were where they're at. I really dont like reshiram's look. |

I was pinning for Charizard. I still like that old big crazy lizard.
And I was under the impression that Zekrom was way more popular than Reshiram - whose design I do not like that much, tbh. Well, a free Rayquaza through the Pokemon Center. Not my favorite legendary, or even my favorite Hoenn legendary at that, but it'll be good to have. I hope it's distributed to English games in the future. |

I think Zekrom might be more popular in the West while vice versa for Japan. But for Rayquaza, was it always known that the winner will have that reward? Easily influenced the votes if that's the case. Makes me wonder if other regions will have their own type of version contest for this.

Not surprising to see the Venusaur cover in dead last, didn't that version only come out in Japan?
Kind of shocked to see Charizard so low on the list though. |

They have these events almost literally every week in Japan. A few weeks ago they gave out Milos Island Tornelos and Voltolos at the end of the two part episode about them. Most of these Pokemon don't make it to the US so I wouldn't hold your breath. I think the US did get the movie Victini, but they never got the movie Zekrom, Resharim, Golorg, or Sazandra, I think. Let alone the tons of similar TV promos.
I don't see the problem given this was a Japanese poll so that'd have no real effect on it... but no. Well, it's hard to answer because the first generation of games is a complete mess in terms of their US releases. The original games released in Japan were Red and Green. For whatever reason, they changed Red to Blue in the US. Blue, as in the real blue version, is the third game in Japan. Pikachu version is not the third version like the US games made it out to seem, but a side product that just mirrors the Kanto arc of the anime. So the trio in America is Red and Blue with Yellow, while in Japan it's Red and Green with Blue... and Yellow is just a side project. It's also worth noting the English Red and Blue used some elements from the third verson Blue, but not others, so they're not even true ports but weird altered versions. One notorious example was the redesign of Mewtwo's cave... people who bought the strategy guide might remember the map of the cave didn't match the game.. because the map was made using the Japanese Red and Green design rather than the retooled version which changed the cave. It's all confusing to be honest. I guess by the time Fire Red and Leaf Green came out they decided to stop doing that rather than rename Leaf Green into Ocean Blue or something and go through that confusion again. |

Red and Green never made out of Japan, actually - both American releases were based on the original Blue version. They probably chose Red instead of Green for the second color because Charizard looks a lot more fierce than Venasaur(remember that the localizers initially wanted to completely redesign all the Pokemon to appeal more to American audiences).

@ TitanXL
Very unfortunate, but at least other regions are getting minor events. Sure, not the "meaty" ones with the legendaries, but at least stuff like Crogunk and Mamoswine is going through. Sometimes its better than nothing in this case. They just really need to make sure to keep interest in the games. @ Polycell They kind of got that with the Blue version. Red and Green in Japan had completely different designs and I guess they made Blue to make the Pokemon more pleasing. And since the release of Pokemon overseas was kind of late(Blue being made, I suppose), it worked in their favor to release that one. Fire Red and Leaf Green, I bet they didn't want to reprogram some things to change to a Blue version. Saving money and resources. |

I'm really displeased that they keep making these Pokemon Center events. I wish they'd distribute them over the Wi-Fi Mystery Gift, but I guess it's not as good for business, so maybe that's why. It's just disappointing for those of us who have the Japanese version but can't get to Japan.
