What makes it funnier is that wasn't the last time Eri would see him full frontal. |

I was dog sitting and the house gets the Funimation network. When I saw this scene I almost fell out of the couch laughing. |

Thanks for the additional information dormcat, the traffic light thing is kind of cool and now I don't have to just 'assume' that Taiwan has a ratings system of a sorts, even if it's apparently a bit faulty based on your description of it all.
I can understand the woman's embarrassment but if it was me, I'd say she should have...explained it to the child somewhat? Not telling her EVERYTHING about that scene obviously, but surely there was something she could have said rather than making it this huge thing that will likely further confuse the child. I mean, it's not like the kid would fully understand the context anyway probably, though kids are smarter than we give them credit for. Like, she could have just said 'They're watching something dirty honey, bad stuff. Eww.' A kiddy explanation to sate the child's curiousity instead of making it wonder more with all of this. But maybe that's just me. Edit: Oh, and on the scene(s) itself/themselves (the Nishimoto one and the Harima/Eri one), I'm with everyone else - they're hysterical. |

I agree with you, I could see how the Mother would be embarrassed, but like you, I think the Mom should have simply explained what was going on in that scene. She wouldn't have to go into graphic detail and explain every minute detail, but just enough to maybe educate her daughter some what on the matter. However instead of going off the rant she did and actually make this seem interesting to the kid, she should have explained this in the most boring and dull way possible to make the kid lose all interest in this matter and in hopes, make her forget about this ordeal entirely. Something tells me the Funimation version of this scene of School Rumble is even more hilarious. I also remember hearing there is a GIF image of this scene on the internet somewhere, not sure where though. EDIT: Well this isn't exactly the Funimation dubbed version, yet I did find a dubbed version of the same scene more or less. Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ny8mLSmyDWo |

Exactly. With all of this hubbub she's raised over it, there's a chance her kid has overheard some of the terminology like 'porn', so let's hope the kid doesn't have free access to a computer to do their own research on the matter...normally I would scoff the idea of a 5-year-old with free computer access off as unrealistic, but since we live in a time where kids that young have cell phones better than my own, I doubt nothing. And I can vouch for the hilarity of the scene in the dubbed version, because that's actually all I've seen a majority of the series in, is dubbed format. Brandon Potter is an AWESOME Harima (and I really wish he'd get more major roles in other shows too), and Leah Clarke does an amazing Eri too. I've been blown away by what little I've heard of Hiroki Takahashi though, and Yui Horie is amazing in everything she does, so I do kinda want to check out the subbed version eventually. |

ADDENDUM: Official press release from NCC. Strange, the PR said the penalties were decided in meeting #464, but the full meeting record list only up to #463. I wonder if NCC dare not to release the names of individuals participating the meeting.
The attachment on the penalty of Momo Kids TV (at the bottom of the DOC file): Time of broadcast: 21:30 (reruns at 23:30 and 01:00) Channel and program: Momo Kids TV, School Rumble Content in question: High school students watching pornographic video; bouncing breasts; moaning female(s). Violation: Satellite Broadcasting Act, Article 17 Paragraph 1 and Article 36 Paragraph 5 ("Impair the physical or mental health of children or juveniles") Penalty: NT$600,000
The "traffic light" symbols, taken from Wikipedia: A brief description can be found here. |

With kids these days, based on what a retired school teacher once told me, some kids will only hear what they want to hear and if it's something that should not have heard, that is when you have their full 100% attention. Otherwise, it's sometimes a case of in ear one and out the other. It's entirely possible that the kid has free access to a computer ore even laptop. I doubt her Mother would expect her to do research on this matter, let alone think she would know what to search for. Sounds laughable that a five year would do that, but like you said, we live in a era where kids that young, even younger have access to Ipad's, cell phones (much better than even mine) and computers that likely are even more advanced than the one I currently own. The times have chanted since I was that age, back then I think the internet was just getting started, but wasn't any where as advanced as it is today. Some kids these days are much smarter than we give them credit for, but sometimes that level of intelligence is rather scary as shown in cases where it is used for less than good intentions. I've seen some of the School Rumble dub and it is fantastic. Non stop hilarity and some of the energetic voice actors you could find for said characters. If I remember right, I think Luci Christian is the voice of Tenma in that show. |

@ dormcat - Whoa, so the fine is over $20,000? That is absurdly extreme, IMO. Removal of the show from the channel I can get behind even if it's an over-reaction though, because it saves them from further headaches like this, but man...that's a hefty price to pay.
Thanks for the Wiki links too, that whole article is making for an interesting read. @ Teriyaki Terrier - Yeah, it's scary how much the world has changed since I was a kid, even in good ways. It's weird for me to look back and say stuff like that since I'm not even that old, I'll only be 23 this year. And yeah, Luci Christian is Tenma and great at it too. Somehow she manages to use a voice very similar to lots of her other roles, but gives Tenma a certain quality that makes it stand out. |

Indeed, even with positive changes with the world, looking back, even less five years ago, it's a different world today. You take the good with the "bad" though. Sometimes it does feel odd (for me) to look back and talk about my past like that as well, given I am not that old either. Like you, I'll be turning 23 this year. However, there certainly are times when I do feel old though. That is more prevalent when I talk about video games though, I once had a person asked me what a NES and SNES was. Considering I've been gaming for almost 18 years, this at first made me laugh, but then realize, the SNES was my generation's video game system, so it's really no surprise that the new generation hasn't really heard of it. Apparently though, Luci isn't her official name. Her real name is Louisa. I just learned that recently and to be honest, I am not sure how I managed not know that, despite the fact I've easily watched a great deal of her work in the last decade of watching anime. Very brilliant and talented actor though, she made One Piece even more hilarious with her role of Nami. |

It's not mutually exclusive. She could had done both: explain to the child and call the news to complain.
It's a TV network corporation. $20k is a slap on the wrist. |

Sure, sexual humour is largely over the heads and outside the interests of small children, but what seriously impaired moral values are they talking about here? Is there concern in the medical or psychological communities about this? Or rather, is this is just drivel attempting to shame the accused into submission? I'm completely unfamiliar with Taiwan, and this has got me curious. |

I think the ensemble work by the Japanese cast is some of the best I've ever heard. (Not quite up to the level of Kurenai, though.) It's easy enough to listen to these performers at work if you can access Hulu. Both the subs and dubs are there, though with the usual commercial interruptions. Harima still remains my favorite comic lead character in all the shows I've watched (quite a few now, too). Takahashi invests him with such a range of emotions that you cannot help but fall in love with the guy. I'm also impressed with how much Koshimizu Ami could do with such a silly character as Tenma. Occasionally she'll pitch her voice in a way that conveys Tenma as deeper and more savvy than she seems. She doesn't get to do this often, but when she does it's quite distinctive. I enjoy listening to Horie's work here as well, and Noto's voicings for Yakumo are just bliss. |

retarded boomer generation and younger generations' inability to become independent due to a failing economy, is all it is. yes the generation in question is yet younger, 5yr olds in this case, but one begets another.. the culture of 40+yr old dominance by people who managed to accumulate wealth during the boom part of the economy has been bred. as long as the globe is stuck in the economic ditch that it is in, older parents' nagging will continue on, amidst the false sense of achievement and self importance, from seemingly having accumulated wealth that nobody else younger thus far could manage.

Where do these people come from? How does one become a person like that? These kind of things always make me feel like I'm in some sort of paraller dimension where everyone is stupid.
