I'm quite baffled about where some voice actors/actresses have gone after working in anime dubbing for a while and then disappeared (?).

I know that voicing for anime isn't just their only job etc. I know better than that. But do you think they've just left the anime industry entirely and went with their own other careers, etc. or do you think they've got their other jobs but voicing for other stuff like US animation and additional voices for live movies, e.g. TV seres, movies etc.?

For example, take a VAs like Juliet Cesario and Pamela Weidner. The last time I heard them was in anime Taiho Shichauzo (You're Under Arrest) Specials from 2002/2003.

And also, how about Petrea Burchard? I've only seen her voice for Ryoko in Tenchi Muyo! and the many other Tenchi series. What do you think she does now? Her own supplementary jobs that she has along when she had voiced for Ryoko? Or maybe some other additional voices in live films or US cartoons?

When I was babysitting a while ago On this childrens show I heard Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Moons voice on that show. Try tvtome.com they have a list of every show you can name and the actors bio and it shows what shows they were on.

Google searches of the actor's name are quite handy for this. A quick one done on Petra Burchard, for instance, turns up that she has been doing a lot of guest appearances on American soap operas and drama series (ER, West Wing, and The Young and the Restless among them) over the past few years but hasn't done anything lately for anime.

Petrea is pretty much out of the anime scene. In case you don't know, her replacement in the 3rd Tenchi OVA is Mona Marshall (Toboe in Wolf's Rain). Marshall played Ryoko's cameo in GXP, but, just like the rest of the new cameo cast, did not do a great job. However, she has listened to the original dub and is following Petrea's performance (FUNi was able to get the rest of the original cast back).

There's a lot of ADV actors that have gone by the wayside, such as Tristan MacAvery, (Gendo in Eva) Sue Ulu, (Ritsuko in Eva) Doug Smith (Kintaro in Golden Boy) and some others (Doug still goes to conventions, but I doubt many people know who he is).

Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. It's a real shame that they're not in the anime industry anymore (well as the current view suggests).

I also went to TV.com as well as suggested by "mistress_reebi". And what I found was some guest stars of Bridget Hoffman and Dororthy Melendrez in a TV show called "The Legend of Black Heaven", which aired on AZN TV on Feb 23rd 2004.
I mean wow, I'd like to see what they're acting is like in a live TV show. Indeed, many English seiyuu have appeared in series like ER, and it's great, but the thing is, the episodes are very old, and I can't watch them on current TV!

On a little subject off-topic, I've noticed, and I think this is very obvious to us all already, that not many of the LA resident seiyuu ever attend anime conventions. I respect their privacy etc. but it's just a shame that they don't attend.
I mean take a great star like Steven Blum for instance. You don't see him around in anime conventions. And moreso my favorite, Bridget Hoffman, you don't see her around in any convention, none at all. Probably the one who attends conventions the most and resides in California is Wendee Lee.

Whereas if you pick any convention from a bundle of 10, you're bound to find at least 1 ADV person there. Let it be Hilary Haag, Tiffany Grant, Monica Rial; they're always there (heheh, maybe not always but I'm just emphasizing the point). Maybe they've a lot of free time. Smile

Well, it is my understanding that Steven Blum does most of his work in LA, whereas Monica Rial and Hilary Haag do most of theirs in Texas (Austin and Houston).

Los Angeles is a bigger "union town" thanks to the movie and TV industry being centered there. Steven Blum goes by a dozen aliases because he takes non-union work and would get in trouble if it became obvious to the people in charge of the major performance unions. I'm guessing he doesn't attend conventions in part because of this.

On the other hand, Monica Rial and Hilary Haag don't have many (if any) aliases. Unions aren't as big a deal in Texas and so they have less to fear by public appearances.

It may also be that Steven Blum just doesn't enjoy conventions as much as Monica Rial and Hilary Haag do.

Or maybe they just like anime. I don't think the LA people have as much time and/or interest. Wink

Steve Blum does ALL his work in LA, and Monica and Hilary do ALL their work in HOUSTON. They have never worked in Austin (and the Austin studio is no more, anyway).

Neither Monica or Hilary (or any ADV or FUNi actor) have aliases.

Actually, I heard it was because a fan at one con was rude to him and he vowed never to do a con again. Plus, he might not really care that much about anime other than working on it. Most of the VAs that are actual fans are the Texas guys.

LOL!! No wonder. I didn't check the ANN records of that title. My bad. Oh man, what a disgrace. Gah, and I'm a major fan of Bridget H. Rolling Eyes

Thanks for nitpicking.

The bulk of what I wrote was correct. Any (Oh, let me clarify... ALL) of the items you singled out were the result of me choosing not to search the listings to verify my comments and instead work from my own memory. When I said "most" it was meant to cover my butt in case there might have been one or two exceptions to the rule. The same can be said for the comment "don't have many (if any) aliases".

As for the comment regarding the Austin ADV studio, I only mentioned Austin because in the commentary on the first Milk Chan Show DVD Monica Rial and Hilary Haag mentioned going to the Austin Studio. Granted, that doesn't mean they did any voice work there, but I just wanted to play it safe again in my language.

Bridget Hoffman is another one who, like Steve Blum, uses many aliases. Prominent ones she has used in the past include Ellen Wilkinson, Ruby Marlowe, and Jane Arden, so it's quite possible she has popped up at conventions under one of those names instead.

One English VA I always wanted to see in person was Spike Spencer (best-known for Shinji Ikari), but I've been told by other VAs that he doesn't really "get" anime so he never does conventions.

Tristan MacAvery may not be doing anime VA work anymore but I know he was still active in the convention circuit as recently as late 2003. He not only loved attending them but actually hung out with the common fans at such conventions; I even sat by him in the audience for a panel discussion one time without realizing who he was at first. Very cool guy.

It's a good thing the LA actors don't care that much about anime, otherwise, they be on these board and you'd get in trouble for that. Wink

Spike Spencer pretends to like anime but all he cares about is his karate moves (which he's probably lying about). That's why nobody likes him. Plus, he sucked as Shinji, his first major role.]

Really? Well I do know all of her aliases and when I visited Fansview.com and browsed through the entire history and listing of conventions, I find nothing from any of her aliases.

I hear that Wendee Lee and Michelle Ruff are in close work with Bridget Hoffman. Also Michelle Ruff is in Otakon this year too. The one thing I'd like to do is maybe ask colleagues of Hoffman about is she ever does attend conventions, but I never get the chance to, not including e-mailing Wendee Lee (which I don't have the guts to). Rolling Eyes

Yeah same here. I like Spike Spencer as well. I'm not a fan of many ADV people but Spencer is one of the people who shines. I liked him in NGE. My recent ADV anime which starred Spike was Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, as Macky. Good job he did there.

Okay, what I meant to say was "His voice is annoying to a lot of people, but there are some who like him."
