01. best oh-so-stabby anime import cartoon networks naruto
Young ninja uzuamki naruto has issues: He's unpopular, hyperactive and has a demon fox sealed inside of him. But such are the lives of the characters that populatethe weird world of naruto, the latest anime installment to make its way to the states from japan. Watch as Naruto and his buddies battle there way through the ninja acadamy and commit the sickest acts of cartoon violence since pap smurf and hand smurf scuffled over the last smurfberry. It airs on cartoon network's saturday night toonami block beginning in september.

Copied that out of my issue.

I don't know what Stuff Magazine focuses on, but from a quick peek at their web site for them that might be a complement. (even if it is ridiculous.)

I was just gonna say...
This just came out of the blue. If it was a video game magazine, it wouldn't have been as random.

That's funny... I guess these people have missed out on things like Berserk, Elfen Lied, GANTZ and Narutaru.

Wait - I guess they haven't seen Naruto, either, seeing as I have no clue at what point "Naruto and his buddies battle their way through the ninja acadamy" Rolling Eyes

Might I be the first to interject that the folks at Stuff are just... trying to be catchy?

It's not a matter of "Oh!! They said this was the XXXXXX-est ever! That means they haven't seen this!"

It's a matter of how to make something sound good. "Man, this is the sickest shit to come out since this!!!" sounds a lot better than "Well, this show is neat, but it's only mildly sick, because there's a lot of shows more sick than this, but HEEEYYY WATCH IT ANYWAY!"

Their objective was to write about something and make it sound really exciting and really hip to an audience who probably doesn't watch anime. I think that goal was accomplished. People who have never seen a drop of anime in their lives will be like "haha yeah!! That sounds really freaking sweet!" No one wants to read something that sounds dull and dry in an effort to target a hardcore nerd audience. The readers of Stuff aren't anime fans. Shit, the writers of Stuff aren't anime fans, so really, they're just trying to make a cartoon sound as cool as possible, and if I were just some random Joe who picked up the magazine, I might be enticed to watch Naruto.

Well, I am some random Joe, and I don't think much of the anime to begin with. Razz

And my original take was that it was some weird left-handed compliment. Kinda Adult Swim/Wizard Magzaine-like

Random Joes don't have nearly 1000 posts on a hardcore anime fan message board.
