Viz made an announcement about Naruto on DVD at Comic-Con. According to their presentation, they will release two versions: bimonthly, edited DVDs with 4 episodes per volume starting in March 2006 and uncut, DVD boxsets with 13 episodes per set starting in July 2006. Here's the picture I got it from:

Click here and scroll down to the Viz Media Panel pictures - the picture is in bold, you can't miss it. (The site doesn't like direct linking to their pictures.)

Note that in the picture, there's a typo on their projection slide that incorrectly states the first DVD boxset is coming out in July 2005, which is halfway over. This should read 07.2006 instead of 07.2005, according to the people who were at the panel.

Instead of individual releases we have to wait for boxsets? What happened to the December release? Maybe they switched it with Hikaru no Go.

They're really serious about Naruto to do both an cut release and uncut box release.

It would be interesting to see If the uncut boxset will do better than the cut version, or vice versa.

I'm looking at the bright side: at least an uncut release has been 100% confirmed (as in not just some random statement by the company, but actual concrete release plans from Viz). Box sets are probably a good thing for Naruto anyway.

definaetly sucks that there is such a long wait or uncut dvds, but I'm glad they're doing boxsets.

Definately makes sense for a series with so many episodes.

In related Naruto news, a teaser with the dub was also screened during the convention, in which the voice of Naruto was heard. So far, I haven't heard people complain about it, so it must be decent. No one knows who's voicing Naruto, but people have speculated it's either Wendee Lee or Ian Hawk.

Will Zatch Bell be released in its edited form and/or uncut DVDs as well?

Those box sets had better be damned cheap, comperable to a season of Family Guy or Futurama.

By the sounds of things, Zatch Bell will get the Zoids treatment: a.k.a. edited only...though they have stated they may consider an uncut release based upon demand/sales.

Without a Naruto-sized fanbase, Zatch Bell won't get the Naruto treatment, sadly.

I'm not a Zatch Bell fan, but I asked that question for others who might be.

Same here, now there's no temptation from the single releases.

This has to be the only practical, affordable way to sell Naruto, especially with the inability to buy just one disc of Naruto to see what it is like, since you have to watch more than 4 episodes of Naruto to get a feel for it, in my opinion.

On the topic of Zatch Bell, the picture of the ZB DVD announcement I got from ASF doesn't state whether or not there would be uncut DVDs further in the future, but I've heard that they might consider them based on demand.

Yea, I thought there was a mistake in there, trying to figure out why the dvds are released this month and it's almost over. Then, I saw the second part of the post, haha. It's cool though people can wait another year, they've waited longer.

you've gotta be kidding, EDITED DVD's!, thats so stupid! i thought they stopped editing dvds, now i have to be careful which version i buy because some kids parents aren't going to check the contents of the dvd before they buy it. it's the parents responsibility to check the contents. also, they don't just cut violence and sexual content, some times companies cut things from anime that they thought was boring or because they thought it had too much Japanese culture in it. i found this info in anime books( i think anime essentials). that really pisses me off.
