For a minute I thought it was "Shinryaku", like Ika Musume!

So...How does this differ from the original series, exactly?
Is it basically just a "second season" of the novels, kind of like Bloody Monday? It doesn't look like Touma and Misaka have aged at all, on that cover, so that's all I can think of: a new story arc.

It's like a two week time skip iirc.

Essentially, yeah. After the events of Index-
Well, God's Right Seat and the Roman Catholic Church are out of the big picture, now after Fiamma was defeated and post-WWIII.
It's a major event that can end a novel series to start a new one, so, it makes sense.

This is the light novels not the series.

Yeah and what a bang did the original set went out with. It's amazing how ridiculously epic these novels are yet the series is doing an incredibly poor job at animating this.

With consistent results like this I'm hoping it encourages companies to pursue the light novel and/or manga licenses for English release.
I would certainly leap for joy if Yen Press got Index.

yeah index has been fun reading so far, one of the few i actually import but the light novel market is a little low state side. I do see it plausible if marketed right with e-readers, limited print copies etc.
