Unfortunately, anime is doing poorly in Adult Swim's ratings. They're only getting about 1/3 the ammount of viewers for their top rated anime show than they do for Family Guy(top rated comedy show)

Yeah, re-runs of Family Guy and Futurama do better than the anime. It's sad. But I don't think they'd stop playing it or anything, it makes up too much of their line-up. They have nothing else.

Yes it does seem odd that the article is saying that Adult Swim is still doing very well. But all the top shows are from the US and not anime at all. Probably worth mentioning on a Futurama/Family Guy news site than an anime one.
I guess anime fans are either doing something else, already own the series on DVD or like the many 10,000s, already downloaded it illegally from the internet... "so why should I watch something I've already downloaded free?!?!". On one site, a recent Naruto episode was downloaded 215,131 times (and still growing). I dont think any other TV show has been downloaded that much before, even new Simpsons dont come anywhere near that figure (1/3 actually).
Still, I'm glad the success lead to Family Guy being brought back

This is soley because of Family Guy, Futurama, and American Dad.
It would help if Adult Swim aired anime people wanted to see that wasn't on a Saturday night.

American Dad, who's watching this tripe? It's nothing but a pale imitation of Family Guy boring jokes, recycled sight gags, and lame sterotypical characters. It's even worse that Tom, but atleast Tom has a new style and original jokes (they just aren't funny).
The thing with the anime scores, atleast they're consistantly low and not on some sort of down swing.

AS is already showing American Dad? But the first half-season is still being shown "first run" on FOX.

See wiht me and adult swim anime I may check it out and if I like what I see I just go out and get the dvds instead of waiting a week and seeing it with commercials. And the fact they edit some of the best parts. I also dont like how they won't subtitle the japanese writing on the shows which is some of the most important and funny stuff.

People are watching American Dad. MANY MANY, people watch it. Also Adult Swim is airing the first-run episodes of American Dad, but the're behind Fox by one episode.
Anime will never beat the comedy shows in the ratings. The only way anime can get pretty good ratings is if they have a lead-in from a comedy show. These past few weeks, the ratings for Saturday Adult Swim have been terrible since they took off Futurama. In fact, Futurama is coming back this Saturday due to the low ratings.

I think anime can beat comedy shows. It just hasn't yet, well with the exceptions of maybe some of the kids anime which might get higher ratings. I guess it depends on lots of things such as the time it is shown, if it's been release on DVD, how long has it been since it's release in Japan. If it's promoted well etc. Shows like Futurama and Family Guy they already have their history and a fanbase since they first aired on Fox.
But I see shows like Futurama, Family Guy and American Dad as good things for anime, it's becoming more acceptable as people get older to watch animated shows. I guess that's why Fox went ahead and let the guys make American Dad. I download those two shows illegally because I want to see them as soon as possible (just saw latest ones today). But unlike the majority of anime fansub fans I'll be buying them on DVD to go with the Futurama, Family Guy and Simpsons DVDs I have already. Everyone's a winner and we all learnt a valuable lesson, I forget what it is but there was one.

I live with a group of people who thrive on adult swim. We watch it every night EXCEPT Saturdays, because we're sadly anime fans with a life. We catch Paranoia Agent reruns on Thursday.

The overlap (or lack thereof) between AS Action and AS Comedy audiences is something I'm sure is a bone of contention at Williams Street.

If it weren't for Futurama and Family Guy, the ratings for EVERYTHING on Adult Swim would suck. ATHF and Robot Chicken are pretty much the only original shows that have evolved beyond complete niche, and even that's thanks to Futurama and Family Guy reeling in new viewers.
That being said, trying to make Saturday an all-anime night was a very stupid idea.

I'm in the same boat as littlegreenwolf. My Saturdays are already booked as I run GT1 class slot cars on Saturday nights.
I watch the re-runs on Thursday nights to stay on top of things, and because I tend to get out of Hardbody Stock Car slot car racing Thursdays a bit earlier.

Perhaps they thought anime fans didn't have social lives and put it on saturday night? For me saturday night would be the worst time to show anime. Maybe repeats but not the first showings.

The reason I started watching anime was because of Futurama and Family Guy. I liked those shows so I started watching [adult swim] and soon I found myself watching ATHF. I figured I'd give everything else a try and soon fell in love with Cowboy Bebop. CB was the pebble that started the avalanche !
